Barack Obama is more than just denouncing those who disagree with him on health insurance reform. He has the White House website targeting individuals. He has asked that fellow Americans turn on fellow Americans and report to a White House email address the names of those who disagree with him. He has not made clear what repercussions await those who get reported.

The rhetoric by the White House and Democrats on the Hill has become visceral, not just with the usual hollow claims of hate, fear and greed, etc., but also Senator Barbara Boxer's weird insult that the protestors aren't sincere because Americans don't wear nice clothes.

Politics is rough and tumble, but a President collecting the names of people who disagree with him is downright scary.

The main objection posited by the President and Congressional Democrats is that people showing up to protest at town hall congressional meetings are not "real people" but shills for lobbyists and other organizations. They coined the cutesy term "astroturf," meaning not real grass-roots, but fake. That claim is denied by protestors who attend the town hall meetings.

Mainstream media is supposed to journal events, not shape them. They shouldn't pick a side. Is that what the media is doing on the issue of Obama v. the protestors? Far from it. Mainstream media has sided with Obama's against the American people who disagree with him.

There can be no good purpose in this.

If it were ever possible for me to be for any of these people..... I would suspect the evil behind these methods of intimidation to silence free speech or to form list...... and would drop all support.

This is evil. There is no good motivation behind it.

The people who agree with this have evil in their heart.

They parade it out in the open 'in plain site'...... and where is the outrage?

I can't find this on the White House web site, only in Fox's article. Can anyone point it out to me?

Such name-taking is unAmerican, unconstitutional, and dangerous. However that rarely stops politicians in DC. From the Patriot Act to this, it is certainly a dangerous slide.

I don't take anything Sen. Boxer says seriously. If she told me the sky was blue, I would not believe her until I verified it for myself. Come to think of it, that is my attitude towards 98% of the folks in DC.

I find it interesting that liberal protesters are the the people speaking truth to power, but conservative protesters are not real Americans. The hypocrisy here is so clear that a blind man should be able to see it.

I'm not sure that it scares me so much as it simply verifies for me what I have thought for years. The Federal Government wants more and more power and more and more control over our lives and thoughts. This did not start with President Obama or the current Congress, it has been going on for years.

Of course, in saying so they discredit themselves. How many liberal organizations have deployed protesters? They also forget that the Boston Tea Party was a planned event as well. Simply because something is planned does not mean you can dismiss it as fake.

I predict the Democrats will run themselves right out of power in the 2010 elections. Don't worry though, they will claim they lost because they did not communicate with the people. They never admit defeat, they always have an excuse. Then the Republicans will come in and do the same type mess.

Maybe not, but they clearly are. Fox News is clearly on the side of the protesters while MSNBC is clearly against them.

    Sure,

"There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to [email protected]." (SOURCE)

As previously pointed out, it is not taking names. It is reporting rumors and misinformation so that it can be publicly addressed. No names should be sent.

Why does the WH need emails and websites sent to them in order to address misinformation about the health care bill?

They are getting their opportunity right now at these townhall meetings to answer these charges by pointing to specific portions of the bill to prove that the public perception is wrong.

    But they aren't doing that.

When someone gets up at a townhall meeting to express a concern the answers from the politicans seem to be nothing more than "that's a rumor" or "that's not true".

Shouldn't they be ready with quotes from the bill - chapter and verse -to refute the rumors or faleshoods?

Why do you suppose that they are not doing that though?

Could it be because they still have not read it and don't even know what the bill says?

Actually, I don't want to hang period. LOL:laugh: I'm just kidding. I know that the statement means that people must band together.

However, it is scary considering that he would be putting together a list of those who oppose him. If Obama wants he can put me at the top of his list.

I have always wondered if a ruler, king, or dictator eliminated everyone that opposed him, who would he have left to rule over? At some point you'd think he would even turn on his most loyal followers.

Well names will be sent and I assure you the White House will not delete those names. Maybe their motives are innocent attempts to stay on top of the debate. However it is still inappropriate for the White House to be asking for this kind of information. Regardless of their motives, it sends a very frightening "big government" message to the citizens of this nation.
