At what age do you think kids should be tried as adults for major crimes?

    I'm just curious to know what people think about this.

    At what age do you think kids should be tried as adults for major crimes? Also, if a teenager commits murder, at what age should he be eligible for the death penalty? What are your thoughts?

    The age of consent is 18. People should be tried as adults at 18. Prior to that, they should be tried as minors unless there are circumstances that abundantly demonstrate the minor was acting in full capacity equal to a consenting adult. That determination, thoutgh, should be left to a judge in a case, as most of us would not be objectively or judicially equipped to make such a decision.

    Normally that's 18, according to the law. But I'm not talking about petty theft, vandalism, or underage drinking. I'm talking about robbery, rape, & murder (violent felonies).

    The reason I asked is because I have heard of rare cases where a 15 year-old gets tried for murder & is put on death row. I just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts on this was. Do you believe that it should be on a case-by-case basis? Should they be a certain age? What about their maturity level (psychologically)?

    I personally believe that it should be on a case-by-case basis. Once a person has turned 18 & commits a violent felony, then regardless, they should be tried as an adult. Here in Mobile, a guy that I used to work with became a Mobile Police Officer. He was a courtesy officer at apartment complex he lived at. Their main role is checking on disturbances & complaints in exchange for reduced rent. He investigated this one incident where, this 18 year-old grabbed his gun, then shot & killed him. They have given him "youthful offender" status. I don't agree with that.
