If you were to choose a movie that would be the theme for the Gospel message today to convey the truth of the Gospel; what would it be?

The Matrix: Where Jesus is the One that will put away sin and death in our reality.... whethor they believe in Him or not.

Rocky: Where believers are committed to be trained and geared up to fight for eternal life.

Alien: Where believers have to overcome sin in them by whatever means possible before it kills them.

Star Trek: Where only the believers united in The True Church will go where no man has gone before: eternal life.

Groundhog Day: Where believers relive the Day of Pentecost over and over again for salvation.

Stargate: Where Jesus is the means to be a citizen in the Kingdom of God. All it takes is a step of faith.

    All of the above

    None of the above

Cannot pick a choice at this time

Other Movie: Reply below in how it would convey salvation in our reality.

If I were going to pick one, maybe I would say Rocky. The only problem with this is that Rocky always kept going to his preist's home shouting, "HEY!, yo Father, can you maybe throw down a couple of blessings my way so I don't get hurt too bad?" God performs the true blessings, not people.

The Aliens movies had too much cussing in it to be any type of salvation (especially Alien 3). Although, I can see where you're going with that.

I never really bothered to watch the Stargate series.

Your scenario with Groundhog Day is a bit of a strecth.

While I like Star Trek (better than Star Wars), I sort of gather that people have to accepting of others no matter what their lifestyle or religion is.

So I will say that I won't pick one at this time.

Battlestar Galactica. Because they spend their life searching, and find what they're looking for right before the end.

Or perhaps The Karate Kid. Because you can't learn how to fight the good fight until you learn how to turn the other cheek.

But the best analogy is Wierd Al's "White and Nerdy". Everyone persecutes you for being different, but after you get a few months of airplay, you're at the top of the chart, and people are wearing shirts with yoru name on it.

Only if the movie is about Jesus, talks about Him, has His name and actual gospel message is it about Him.

    Thank you for sharing that.

I had tried to word that option as a "universal slant" to it, implying that Jesus would get rid of sin and death in our reality whethor we believe in Him or not, but there wasn't enough word space in the choice selection part in posting the poll to relay that point clearly.

Most of the other choices were placing the emphasis on the believer except for the one movie I used as an analogy of the Gospel message of salvation and that was Stargate as being on Jesus.

Course, the Chronicles of Narnia choice by webdog hit it off more than just a analogical theme for what I was using the poll for, but I should have thought of that as an option. Oh well.

I just wanted to see how posters see where the emphasis for salvation was on. Probably not a fair poll in trying to determine that, but it is what it is.

Rocky is a choice that those that have made a commitment to follow Christ for salvation are living by religiously. I hardly see that as ceasing from our works as God did from His when we came to Jesus and believed in Him to rest in Him. Matthew 11:28-30 & Hebrews 4:1-3,9-11

Alien is a choice that like "Rocky", would have been made by those from Alcholic Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous in making a commitment.

Star Trek is excluding other believers if they were not a part of their one true church to obtain eternal life by such as the RCC or any exclusive church. Believers really need to stop being identified by a church since its identity will change over time, and with it, the faith. We are children of God by faith in Jesus Christ.

Groundhog Day are for those believers that keep relaying the foundation in Christ Jesus that was done for salvation by preaching another spirit to receive such as the Pentecostals and the Charismatics.

Stargate was of course, my choice of using as an analogy of the Gospel message in that the question of how to be come a citizen in the Kingdom of God to come to live with God the Father in having that restored relationship with Him is by faith in Jesus Christ. By applying faith in Jesus as the Door, we are "transported" into that kingdom as a child of God.

The emphasis being on the believer is one that cannot be applied to Jesus' invitation to children for all they can do is trust the Lord at His Word. Jesus declared that unless we receive the Kingdom of God as a child, we shall in no wise enter therein, and that is why not very many nobles are called or mighty men.... for the religious of the world will see such simplicity of the Gospel as foolishness as in their eyes, something more must be required, but Jesus said otherwise. As the child of God has received the Kingdom of God by faith, so shall he live by faith in living as His, since Jesus is the Good Shepherd as well as the Saviour which is why the only way we can know Him... is by faith. Galatians 2:20 & Philippians 3:8-11

Anyway, not to condemn believers or anything, but to give a call for self examination by His grace as many exhortations are given to believers in how to live as His, but all exhortations should be known to receive by applying faith in Him in helping them to live as His and not have any confidence in the flesh so that our faith can be seen as apart from the world.

Thank you for participating in the poll and for sharing, Marcia. I hoped this reply was not too long.

True, especially when the blessing is given by route of prayer to make it happen.

The other kind of blessing is a verbal response of God's love.

Matthew 5: 43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Romans 12:14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

1 Corinthians 4: 11Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; 12And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: 13Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

I suppose one could see Rocky as taking punches and acting as if he can take more: "Is that all you got?" , but that would be a form of boasting.

Sorry. I did not mean to say that one can see the Gospel message in the movies, but the theme of the movie if one was to describe the theme of the Gospel to someone today.

There was a movie before the actual series was made, using different actors and actresses. I believe Kurt Russell played in the movie as Richard Dean Anderson ( MacGyver) played in most of the series.

Understandable, but I offered it as a choice for Pentecostals and Charismatics as they keep relaying the foundation by which they were saved by, as in bought with a price and sealed as His with the Holy Spirit, thus confusing the Gospel message as if they are not new wineskin, unable to hold the new wine.

Kind of another theme of the RCC in its ecuminical format with other religions of the world in having an agreement with them as well as holding unity with other christian denomenations in the other hand.

2 Corinthians 6: 14Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 18And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Thank you for participating in this poll.

It was not given to condemn anyone by any choice they have made, but to give pause for self-examination in ther walk with Him; as well as considering what movie best be used to describe the theme of the Gospel to someone.

webdog's choice is a good one, if one wanted to go into that much detail explaining the movie with the Gospel message.

    Interesting analogy.

If one reword the analogy to a seeker that have fallen into ruin because of sin, seeking for the hope of restoration until they find Him....to find their Home with God away from sin... thus the end of the old life and the beginning of the new... it could be used as a general theme of the Gospel message.

I could even use that analogy of the movie in a different way, seeing how the Cyclons (death) could strike at any moment, the travellers were putting off receiving salvation until they know they are going to die. I could have used that analogy for those that are procrastinating coming to Jesus.

A good analogy of one not using what they know to hurt others, but to love others by showing God's love for us.

In God's eyes, saints would be at the top of the chart, but in the eyes of the world, saints wouldn't be popular. Indeed, some believers may testify how they have fallen into persecution for being a believer, but I know what you mean. For a while, we are persecuted.. until we are brought up Home on high by Him in His glory. :jesus: :godisgood:

Thank you for participating in this poll.

    Right.

Sorry if I was not clear in conveying the purpose of the comparison. If you came across an avid movie goer and due to the many misrepresentations of the Good News out there, what movie could you use as an analogy or as an overall theme to convey the Gospel message of salvation to him or to her?

The other purpose was to give pause and consider how I was using the analogies of the movies to convey the Gospel message... sort of a self-examination in the faith we have in Christ Jesus.

God does call believers to do a spot check every now and then, for a tune up just so that we are not caught sleeping.:sleeping_2:

That is not to say that anyone is condemned by choosing a wrong choice, but to consider why we had chosen what we did.

He certainly addressed the seven churches in Revelation for self-examination.

Anyway, thank you for your time and reply to this poll.

    Lord of the Rings
Nearly every main character is a Christ figure:

    • Aragon, the returning King destined to take his rightful place
    • Frodo, the suffering servant willing to giove up his life for the good of all
    • Gandalf, the wise who works all events for the ultimate good
    • Sam, the faithful friend

The Ring of Power is subtle, yet eventually consumes all.

I'd toss a vote for Luther as a must-see for every believer.

If you are upset by gaps, etc, then do some research.

That is an interesting analogy of using the characters in the Lord of the Ring to somehow convey Christ's character for movie goers to relate to.:jesus:

I am not knowledgeable of the movie "Luthor". I am not sure what you mean by being upset by "gaps", but I suppose if I ever get around to researching the movie, I shall find out.

    Thanks again.

    You're welcome.

I wish I could take credit, but JRR Tolkien himself said he preferred "history to allegory," and therefore wrote the LoTR as a "history" of Middle Earth.

Tolkien was Roman Catholic, and in the LoTR books we see clear Mary-worship archetypes.

But overall the story moves along a redemptive narrative, in language and scenes that are compelling as they are revealing.

Luther was a Hollywood-quality bio-pic about Martin Luther. It does a fairly creditable job of showing the inner and outer struggles of the great reformer.

    True.

However, getting an avid movie-goer to watch it, one may find themselves picking another movie that they had watched in order for them to be interested in why Jesus Christ is the Good News.

    Interesting info.

I confess that I missed that entirely. Are you referring to the hobbits making like "Bambi" eyes towards the presence of the female elves? :love2:

Then I can see the likeness of those Mary worshippers from the hobbits reaction, however, I still kind of see this response as something every woman wishes from a guy.

Course, I am a guy saying this. I'm sure some women will protest to my remark. Maybe even guys too.:tonofbricks:

I dunno, but if you are referring to that helpess state of swooning, okay. If not, then I guess I don't know what you mean.

I liked the Lord of the Ring trilogy.

I believe that the "movie" we are living in shall reveal the climactic ending of the glory of the Lord after the coming of the 3 harvests.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like a good movie. Sorry I missed it.

I think maybe the Queen of the Elves was the Mary figure? I'm not sure but I think so. There might be others.

Gladriel was in fact the Mary figure in the books (not as obvious in the movies).
