From his close friend Ed Klein, on the Diane Rehm Show.

I don’t know if you know this or not, but one of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, “have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick?” That is just the most amazing thing. It’s not that he didn’t feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too.

    Sad, very sad :tear:

Even more disturbing is that supposedly it was said that Mary Jo was glad to give her life if it help Teddy become a powerful Senator. :tear:

Perhaps, you missed, or ignored, this line, which came first: It’s not that he didn’t feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne

Perhaps this was his way of dealing with the situation. Some people handle funerals and the death of a loved one this way too.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I didn't miss it. But the fact that he solicited jokes about the woman who died in his car is a little disturbing, and certainly seems like a horrible way to honor her memory. The only ridiculous part of the whole story is he didn't stick around to report the accident.

So let me get this straight. The folks who joked & opined negatively about Kennedy's death are hateful, and unChrist-like. But Ted Kennedy's jocularities are an appropriate way for a man to deal with a woman who died because of his actions ?

Got it. I like learning new things.

I will say this about Senator Kennedy: You won't see me celebrating or doing a dance in the streets about his death. However, I am glad that he can't do anymore damage to our nation than he has already done.

For strangeness, consider the target of the discussion. A man who caused the death of a young woman by leaving her in the river after the car they were in crashed, a man who never served any time for this crime, a man who did all he could to bring some form of socialism to this country, a man who took advantage of the deaths of his two brothers to further his ambitions--now that is strange.
