To all who may have an interest:

I have just submitted, last Thursday, Reason for the Season: Ministerial Reflections on Grief, Suffering, and Loss, to Founders Press.

This volume has 10 ordained ministers and one physician who have experienced these three dynamics in their lives, either puctilliarly or ongoingly. It will serve as a decent volume (I think and hope?) for a "Spiritual Formations" correlative reader.

The idea was taken from Robert Mulholland's understanding that "Spiritual Formations" as an ongoing and lifelong thing rather than a "class that I had in seminary." Each of the contributors has had to deal with some major issue that "formed them for (and in) their respective ministries."

It is what, the co-editor and I hope, is a unique "perspective" on suffering. Many in the congregations do not believe or do not understand that the minister suffers too. We hope some will find new joy in their suffering and strength or courage to go on with Christ even through and in their trial. Although written from a minister's perspective, we believe it will cause any who read it to reflect on how the Lord is making them into Christ's image.

It will probably come out sometime in the middle of 2010. Look for it on Founders.org web page.:praying:

    "That is all!"

Sounds wonderful...I'll purchase a copy. My only child was murdered last year...it has been tough.

    Parallel study.........

Hey, I can't wait. I have been involved in a serious research and writing project on counseling the terminally ill for ongoing two years. I will be very interested to read your perspective. Surprisingly, there is relatively little useful literature on counseling the terminal patient, although there is a larger body on dealing with grief, etc. My question is this: Has spirituality and spiritual growth become irrevelant when a person is known to be facing short-term mortality? After all, we're all terminal, it's just a matter of time. What do you think?

    Mood Tides

Another book along these lines is Mood Tides: Divine Purpose in the Rhythms of Life. I highly recommend it, though I would have to throw in (for full disclosure!) that my uncle is the author. You can find it as well as some reviews of it on Amazon. I'm sure you can pick it up elsewhere as well.
