I prefer Father Christmas. He only filled our stockings with coal, and with that we could keep warm.

    Cheers,oh, and Happy Christmas!

We don't "do" Santa but we don't put him down either. We just don't focus on him at all. We don't do the pics with Santa (although the teens have with their friends), Santa coming to bring gifts, letters to Santa, etc. Of course they see it all over the place but they don't believe in him at all. It's just how we've decided to do it here.

Depends, do you mean as a story / saint nick gave presents to children, etc.
Or do you mean to tell them that he is going to come down a chimney and give them presents, in reality?

The latter is a lie, no way around it. And it can easily lead to doubt in God, later.

My wife and I teach our kids that Christ is the reason for Christmas (His birth) which they call " Jesus' birthday". To them, Santa is just a guy who brings presents.

I want to find a bumper sticker that says "It's Christmas for Christs Sake" or something like that.

Around Christmas time when someone tells us "Happy Holidays" we always always reply with "Merry CHRISTMAS"

    That's blasphemy,
Using Christ's name with no reverence, to prove a point. And, in a manner that is most often a swear word.

"Jesus is the reason for the season".

Not original to me, but I love it! I am quick to point out to the kids I teach in Sunday School that the day is NOT called "SANTAmas", but "CHRISTmas". I am also prepared to tell about the original Saint Nicholas, who was a Christian and who gave needy children things, in stockings. I do not "put down" Santa either, but always try to shift the conversation to my opening line!

I sometimes tell about a Christmas play I was in (as Santa) where Santa and the kids told the Christmas Story (from the Bible) and then Santa ended up kneeling before the Baby Jesus to worship Him, and then disappeared when the lights went out at the end of the play. Of course, Jesus was still there!

BTW, I LOOOOVVVE to decorate for Christmas, but do not use Santa in my "outdoors" decorations. My neighbors have repeatedly told me thanks for my Nativity display.

Happy Birthday, Jesus (60 days early)!

since I could only pick one I chose other, that being becasue I really wanted to answer 2 of them, we should teach children santa is fictional, and keep him out of SS and Church, after that it makes no difference to me. Preferably he would not be the focus of christmas for a christian family, even if he is acknowledged.

My grandson is 15 years old. It's time he learned the truth. He's entirely too big to be sitting on Santa's lap at the mall.

I don't believe in lying to children. That's why I couldn't believe anything my dad said; he was a perpetual liar--like politicians.

Well, it is not Christ's birthday either, so where do the "lies" end?

    Cheers,

    Jim

I see nothing wrong with celebrating His birth. However, since we don't know for sure when He was born, what is wrong with picking a time and celebrating it then? I don't believe the time should be the same time as Christmas, and the name "Christmas" should be changed to exclude "Christ". His birthday should be some other time since Christmas has nothing whatsoever to do with Christ's birth. It has become too commercialized to become something having to do with a fictional character, a big dinner, trees, decorations and presents--especially the presents.

Christmas was chosen by the Romish church to accommodate a pagan festival on the same date.

We know that Shepherds did not mind their sheep by the nights in December. The sheep were brought home to pens by the homes. Hence no room in the "manger".

Christ was born in September or March-April.

I don't celebrate Christmas. I prefer to follow Father Chrstmas, the bloke who filled our hung stockings with either coal or candies. Nothing to do with Jesus.

    Cheers,

    Jim
