This topic is being discussed in a Baptist Only section, but the topic is worth discussing by the total BB population at large.

What is the order of worship at your church? Is there a natural structure and flow to it? Is it the same from week to week or does it change? Does the order help create an atmosphere of worship?

Just wondering what everyone does, what works and what doesn't work.

Ours is pretty straightforward but I'd love to see the announcements moved to another time or eliminated all together.

    Greeting
    Worship (usually 4 songs)
Corporate prayer (pastor prays, people can come forward for prayer)
    Greeting one another
    Announcements
    Offering/Special music
    Consecration song
    One more worship song
    Sermon
    Benediction

On Communion Sunday, the communion is immediately after the Corporate Prayer, then we have a benevolent offering then the greeting.

I noticed that, too. But I don't want to derail this thread. Why not start a new thread on the subject of invitations and altar calls. I'm going to be away most of the day, but I'll join in.

Actually, pastor covers that in his message most of the time. We don't do invitations every week but when there is an appropriate message, he does. However, all new visitors and anyone who wants to speak to a pastor can go to our Hospitality Suite to meet with the pastors. :)

Don't mean to derail. That kind of just jumped out at me. And of course, my comment was tongue in cheek. Hopefully Ann knew that.

Good idea about a new thread. I'll get going on that when I have the time.

Every church is different. Ann posted a typical order of service. From that many churches vary somewhat as to how many songs, specials, benediction or no benediction, invitation or no invitation, etc. In one church I visited all the people at the church, after the first song walk around greeting each other with a hand shake. I don't find a set order for any one church.

Our church's services varies a bit from Sunday to Sunday, but here is last Sunday.

    Welcome & Announcements
    Congregational Greeting
    Worship Songs (two)
    Scripture Reading
    Worship Songs (one or two)
    Pastoral Prayer
    Offering & Special Music
    Scripture Reading
    Sermon
    Confession of Sin
    Assurance of Pardon
    Communion
    Pastoral Blessing

The service tends to flow pretty well. One of the things that helps is that our music goes from song to song, rather than having the announcement, "please turn to page number so and so and let's all sing..." Also, I do like the fact that all of the announcements are done up front rather than breaking up the service. However, there is a lot of standing during our service so wear comfortable shoes.
