The former Louisiana congressman who famously hid $90,000 cash in his freezer following an FBI bribery sting was sentenced to 13 years in prison Friday, the longest term ever imposed on a congressman convicted of bribery.

Prosecutors wanted the 62-year-old William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans, to serve at least 27 years in prison. The defense wanted less than 10 years and hoped Jefferson could remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction.

Jefferson said nothing in court after he was sentenced. He was convicted in August of 11 counts, including bribery and racketeering. Prosecutors at his two-month trial said he took roughly $500,000 in bribes and sought millions more. He was acquitted of five other charges, including the one most closely associated with the money in his freezer.

Good hope they throw away the key. Put him out in the sun breaking rocks along with about 95% of his fellow legislators.

So let's put him on a penal farm with Madoff. He has victims, devastated, unlike yer local skateboarding pot smoker.

Drug and alcohol abuse always create victims.

Marijuana should be legal to grow, cultivate, and consume. The fact that it is illegal is what makes the victims.

Victims? No the victims are the families that suffer from the abusers who are addicted. Such substances tear apart families. Now one can argue other things cause similar victims but it is not reasonable to argue that marijuana abuse never does. As a former drug and alcohol abuser I can tell you first hand about the effects of it all.

That has nothing to do with anything. His buddies on the other side of the aisle are just as much thieves, self serving slobs that they are as he is. Everyone of them need to be tried for treason, bribery, and theft of the American people. Vitter, Ensign, Foley, Craig, Sanford, Clinton, Blagoelavich, and others need to be right next to him breaking rocks in the hot sun and on chain gangs in the winter.

Until the Democrat vs Republican nonsense stops, nothing is going to change.

I think Revmitchell was being facetious, but watch a video of an abortion and then try to say that a Democrat isn't a violent criminal.

    That was my point.
