That’s a good question.
Especially since the Bible leaves it up to us.........

“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

At our Church, we do it about 4 times a year, and that seems to be perfect.

There are some Churches that only do it once a year(& that is not enough), and other Churches that do it every Sunday(& that’s too much).

If a Church doesn’t do it enough, some folks might miss it;
But if it’s done too much, it becomes ritualistic, and people can get the wrong idea about it.

 

Our church holds it about once every two months, on average, sometime more, sometimes less. It is usually in the Sunday night service, but the next one is the Sunday after Christmas in the morning.

 

How do you know this? We do it every Sunday before the morning service and every single time is a blessed and worshipful time as we 'show His death.'

Can a church remember His death too often?

I am not dogmatic, to each church their own, but I do think it wrong to make a statement like the one posted above. How can you decide what is too much for our local church?

I find this keeps us in close communion with Him as we are constantly encouraged to remember His sacrifice for us.

 

We do it once a month, about half of the time on Sunday morning and the other half on Sunday night. In December, it's always on Christmas Eve. However, I think Acts 20:7 makes a good case for having the Lord's Supper every Sunday.

 

Why not daily as shown in Acts 2:46 ?

No saying we must - but merely asking why not?

 

We do it every other month on Sunday mornings. But we also do it on Christmas Eve and on the 1st Sunday of the year.

 

First Sunday of the month here as well...

 

We serve the Lord's Supper the first Sunday of the month.

I wouldn't be opposed to every Sunday, and it would probably be more in line with scripture and the practice of the early church.

And this danger is real, unless the pastor does a great job each and every service, of explaining that it is just a memorial.

You know, that Children raised up in such an atmosphere, are going to come away thinking that somehow this keeps them holy or something.

I do apologize for offending you; But my point has been proven by the responses in this thread.

Can you even imagine, a Christian Church, commemorating “good Friday”, with the Lord’s supper service?!?!?

Don’t they realize how unbiblical and simply religious that is; and how if they were actually going to honor the day of our Lord’s death, they would do it on a Wednesday, not a Friday?!?

Pure religion, is to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep ourselves unspotted from the world.

But this kind of “feel good” religion, is far from pure.

You said in your first statement - 'this is too often.' You cannot make that judgement for another local church.

Our Lord's Table has nothing to do with feeling good, every week it is a challenge to my heart and a reminder to show His death all through the week.

I would love to see you document your fallacious charge that children who grow up observing the Lord's Table weekly 'come away thinking that somehow this keeps them holy or something.' Do have anything to back that up?

Your local church has the liberty to only remember the Lord's death four times a year, that is up to your church. But please don't characterise those who do so weekly as being 'religious and impure.' You don't know our hearts and you have never sat in one of our Lord's Table serivices.

Every time we eat the bread and drink the cup we remember His death. Is once a week really too often for that?

You are right, I have not documentation; I just know the nature of the beast.
We, as human being, are bent on substituting a lie for the truth. etc.

Now sure enough, being born again, changes us on the inside; But a battle ensues, between the new man and our old man;
And our old man, is looking for an easy out(some religious practice), that can soothe our conscience, allowing us to get away with sin.

And a weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper, can be this easy out, for some people.

Sure enough there is no documentation that I know of, that proves this point:
But each of us, can conduct our own experiment.....

The next time your Church observes the Lord’s Supper, lead your family to not participate, for this one service; And document the results.

 

Why would I miss a chance to remember the Lord's death?

Why is your four times a year more godly than our weekly?

Do you really think that a weekly observance of the Lord's Table is a way to find an excuse to sin?? Every single week I am forced to deal with my own unholiness and unworthiness to partake of this remembrance.

Do you have even the slightest Bible evidence to condemn our church for a weekly observance of the Lord's Table? Or is this charge of an 'easy way out' based only on your opinion? Have you ever been in a church that observed the Lord's Table weekly?

I only tell my wife I love her 4 times a year 'cause more than that and she'll just take it for granted..:laugh:
