I thought I'd never say this, but, Obama finally impressed me with a speech.

I wondered how he would reconcile his involvement with America's involvement in the war on terror and the Nobel Prize for Peace, and, I must say, that he did remarkable. In fact, he did better than remarkable as he made America, and our past involvements in wars around the world sound honorable, and necessary to keep liberty and the fight for freedom and democracy alive for any nation that wants to be free!

Congrats President Obama...you won some necessary "brownie points" from me for a speech well given!

I'm still a proud American, and today, I was somewhat proud of my POTUS, because, instead of putting the USA down, he actually lifted it up...

It appears that God can still stir up the heart of this man, and move within his heart to say the right thing when the pedal-is-to-the-metal...therefore, I have renewed hope that he expresses the same concern, and stiff-back-bone when it comes to holding the ground against funding abortions through this new health care bill. :wavey:

I would have been far more impressed if he had refused to accetp it for 2 reasons:

    1. He did nothing to deserve it.
    2. Considering who it has been awarded to in the past, it's a meaningless award.

    I'm with Carpo.

If he had even the slightest ounce of integrity, he would have turned the award down.

I Don't Disagree With Your Thoughts

You, and the others, are right on. I would have LOVED to see him not accept it, but, his "full-blown EGO" got the best of him, AGAIN!!!

However, in light of his EGO taking him beyond doing the right thing, at least he gave a good speech, which graciously married his so-called "warmongering" mentality with the world's perceived view that he deserved this prize.

As I said, I was interested in how he'd bring this contradiction of an award together with his recent increase in sending troops to Afghanistan. In that area, I think he did he did well!

Obama has done nothing to merit such an award and, frankly, the only result I see in this is that the award has now finally been made totally meaningless.

His speeches, by the way, are extremely void of substance and this one was no exception.

Why shouldn't he receive the award... whether he feels deserving or not?
Consider some of the other characters who've won it!
It certainly doesn't stand for what its name implies.... but it does stand for something!

I noticed too that he referenced 'history' when it seems it wasn't so long ago.... his inaugeration and/or since when he discarded the importance of history.... Mr. Prez' either history counts or history doesn't. But it is not honest to indicate that history is not important on one ocassion and then appeal to history as justification for the present. But thanks for owning up to the fact that history does count..... even if it is only when it serves your purpose!

Another thought occurs to me, Mr Prez, you've always had a charismatic delivery. But all past presidents have had their speech writers. So much of recent date seem torn from playbooks other than the one you delivered when you ran for office and in your early days..... who should we really be thanking for pushing the right buttons somewhere in your speaches to insure that even some of us agree? Is it really you, Mr Prez.... or just the pr approach of a good speach writer? You see..... I would really like to find some ground to give you credit...... but I feel nearly as jaded by your predesessors where it got started, so my skepticism isn't merely on you only.

Obama is a talking head, so of course he gave a good speech. The main reason he was tapped to run for the Dems is because he gives a good speech. When he spoke at the Dem National Convention the first time people were asking if he was going to run... they had no idea who he wwas, but he could give a great speech.

Unfortunately that's all it took to win the election. America has become so shallow that goof looks and a silver tongue are all it takes to become POTUS; forget all that other stuff like dignity, honor, love of country, thinking of the people of the US, and that that other crap.

Righteousdude, I read the transcript of the speech and parts of it sounded just like "W". I guess reality is having a little impact on the very idealistic Mr. Obama.

    Right On!

My wife said that once he [Obama] got into the Oval Office, his opinions on Iraq and the war on terror would change, because he'd see things he wasn't privileged to as a candidate. This is becoming more apparent with a lot of his moves to send in more troops. He NOW knows what Bush knew, and that is that we are in a war that could lead to defeat to a radical enemy that looks nothing like the enemy we faced in wars past.

The radical terrorist is similar to the spiritual battle between heaven and hell. The devil can come at us in ways that take time to recognize. The spiritual warfare that believers are in, is a not unlike the war on terror. It gives the church an enemy that is unrecognizable, always changing its tactics, and all too often stealthy.:tonofbricks:

Obama is still a very, very weak POTUS, and I doubt if he'll ever be as strong as Bush. In fact, I have a few acquaintances in the military, and they say there is a growing number of military people wanting Bush back. Of course, that could only come through a "coup d'etat" and that type of change [we can believe in] may place the nation on target for the question asked by KenH on a post dated 12/11/09:"Is Obama Really Preparing For Civil War?":1_grouphug:

Only God knows where this nation, and the world are headed. For this one reason, it is not up to the church to base its ministry and direction on the rumors of war, or peace, but, rather we are to be focused on Jesus and and the cross of salvation while we remain obedient to His Word and calling, and staying the course of FAITH.:praying:

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul

I am of the same opinion. Sickening, isn't it? Just another reason I regret voting for Barack Obama in the general election, just as I regret voting for George W. Bush. At least it finally convinced me to turn my back on both of the major parties except for a few people such as Ron Paul and Rand Paul.

He's changed his "change" because he's not selling to the same people now. He doesn't have that much more information in hand! He just doesn't need to pander to the fools that voted for him right now. He has no consistent grounded view or plan of action to address those views except, of course, the general liberal and socialist views of a community organizer that more government is the answer to all our problems.

Obama has been a liar from day one, and will continue to be, whether he gives a good speech or not. There are two groups of people who are getting exactly what they deserve with this President. The first group, as you said, are those who voted him in, or should I say, elected the electors who voted him in. The second group are the lemming Republicans that did not hold the Bush administration and Republican Congress' feet to the fire when they governed this nation like the liberals that they are. They created a climate of such anger, true conservatives either stayed home or voted for someone other than McCain.

What amazes me about these threads is some are starting to waiver in their opposition to this thug. He has been in office eleven months, so why, all the sudden, does he give a speech that changes someone's mind about his character. Well, I guess one conclusion to draw is that if you let George Bush fool you, it is no problem over time for Obama to fool you.

We are losing our ability to discern good from evil. A good speech is not the dividing line. Truth, liberty and freedom are. The US Constitution is suppose to be our guide. Of course he does not deserve this award. What possible standard was used to justify this? If the award is worth its reputation, it must be awarded with the highest of standards, to someone who has actually made a difference in the area of world peace.

In his campaign, Obama did nothing but cut down the Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq and Afghanastan (which some was justified, but that is another subject). Now, he sounds just like the person he criticized to win votes. He is following the same pattern. He is not asking Congress to declare war. He has no intention of using the full force of the US military to win the war, and he has no exit strategy. If we are not going to fight to win, at the cost of American blood, then don't bother.

If you can listen to one speech and change your view of this "President" even slightly, then you are open to being a full supporter over time. All it takes is a foot in the door. Once a liar, always a liar.

That's exactly right! He'll pander to whomever he thinks he needs to at every venue just to stay popular. There's still nothing of substance underneath it all. During the campaign he was all about "ending the war" and some people bought that. His approach was the wrong solution to the wrong problem at the wrong time, his ability to make any of it actually happen was greatly exaggerated, and, for those who wanted it or believed it, he hasn't kept his promise to them.

Some ponder the course a bit now and then but stay focused on where they're headed. Others boldly get off the boat claiming never to return but then they do.

I would have been far more impressed if President Obama had:

    1. Dropped the unconstitutional nation building rhetoric and announced our immediant withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.

    2. Refused to accept the discredited, and meaningless, Noble Peace Prize which, btw, he has yet to do anything to deserve.

    3. Informed the world that from that point forward he, and his administration, would be limited in domestic and international policy by the Constitution of the United States (which he swore to uphold...).

Many of President Obama's war speeches are very similiar to President Bush's war speeches. It is so bad, that even Jon Steward of the Daily Show did a skit on the similarity. I tried to find video of it, but could not.
