This is kind of a weird thread for me to start as a Democrat, but it's true. With healthcare and banking reform the Obama administration has shown incredible weakness. To steal a line from my favorite rock band Alice in Chains, this has got me sitting on my angry chair. For starters, heathcare. There are 58 senators on board for the public option. While 60 are needed to invoke cloture to overcome a Republican filibuster, Harry Reid could take it to reconciliation and get it passed with 51 votes, or even 50 votes plus Vice President Biden.

Another area of weakness is banking reform. Obama appears to be taking no significant steps. Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) have proposed reinstating the Glass-Steagall Act, which separated commercial and investment banking and helped protect consumers. Obama, as far as I can tell, is opposed to this. It's sad when you have John McCain outflanking you on the left.

Bush/Cheney on the other hand, were able to pass many parts of their agenda with only 50 or 51 Republican senators. The tax cuts, Medicare part D, No Child Left Behind, the Patriot Act, etc. were all passed with slight GOP majorities.

To be fair, Obama has made huge progress on Iraq, bringing terrorists to justice, diplomacy, and some things on healthcare. For the most part, Obama's problem on domestic policy is he's not being strong and is not liberal enough. I had hoped that he would be a strong progressive. For me, It's time to put away the angry chair, get off my soapbox, and go to bed.

    It's called bipartisan support.

Bush had it at times because some proposals were so obviously good for the country, enough democrats went along with it to make it happen.

Obama, OTOH, is an economic idiot and many of his proposals are so bad for the nation that he can only get support from the liberal lapdogs of his own party.

Have a good nights sleep child. Maybe when your mind matures, your eyes will open...like a puppy.

Really? What? Where? What exactly did he do?

Oh really? Is that what they call bringing dangerous terrorists into our country and giving them rights of US Citizens, all the while ignoring the Constitution? Interesting...

Oh really? Is that whey call bowing, rump-kissing, apologizing, and capitulating these days? Do we refer to it as "diplomacy" since obviously no one in the administration can spell the words "decorum" or "protocol?"

Oh really? Would that "thing" be the provision to use my tax dollars to kill "inconvenient" children? Or is it that "thing" about health care for illegals? Or is it that "thing" about unconstitutionally forcing me to purchase a health insurance plan...and managing to kill competition, so that the only "plan" that I can get is healthcare by the folks that screwed it up to start with. Now...which "thing" was it Obama did right?

You ought to read about this great country that used to exist...called the "United States of America." It was based on two concepts that might be foreign to you: "Freedom" and "liberty." You might have read about them one time...or you may have been stuck on an elevator when Lee Greenwood was singing about them.

Too bad you and your "angry chair" oppose the very foundations that made this country great. It's really too bad. We had a good thing going before some of us got lazy, and others did away with that pesky "freedom" idea.

But hey...what do I know? Obviously, Obama is the best president ever. I saw him walk across the surface of a lake to heal an injured swan. He Baracks my world.

    Sheesh.

Remember Contract With America? Republicans won both houses but never passed legislation on half the items.

Does it come naturally for you to be incorrect or do you have to work at it? The Contract With America was made by the Republican candidates for the House only and did not include the Senate. Actually it was a remarkable success. Unfortunately the Senate did not go along on everything.

    ***************************************************************

    http://newt.org/Portals/0/Files/CWA10Year.pdf

All ten items in the Contract with America were brought to a vote in the U.S. House in the
first 100 days as promised by the Contract. Nine of the ten items passed the House. The
sole exception was Term Limits which received a plurality but required a two-thirds major-
    ity as a Constitutional Amendment.

    • Committee Chairmen were term-limited.
    • The Office of Speaker was term-limited.
    • The Legislative staff was cut including in the Speaker's office. Also reduced were com-
mittee sizes. Many unnecessary perks were eliminated.
    • The Congress was forced to live under the same laws as the rest of the nation - OSHA,
    disabilities, and workplace laws.
    • A big six accounting firm audited the U.S. House's finances.
    • The Budget was balanced for the first time in a generation.
    • The line-item veto passed and was signed into law.
    • Eventually after a Presidential veto, taxes were cut for the first time in 17 years. In-
cluded were a cut in the capital gains tax, a $500 per child tax credit and new tax credits
for tuition to college and voc-tech schools. The capital gains tax was actually scored as
a revenue increase marking a significant shift in tax policy debates.
    • Military spending increased for the first time in over 10 years including funding for a
    national missile defense.

The contract met with mixed results in 1995. The House Republican leadership did indeed put each item to a vote within the first one hundred days. It divided each item into one or more bills, and thirty-one of the resulting thirty-two measures passed— only one, for congressional term limits, failed. The Senate moved much more slowly. In part, this was because the Senate, as a debating body, customarily proceeds more cautiously. Another reason was that the senators, unlike their first-year counterparts in the House, were far less eager to pass sweeping reforms: the Senate killed the proposal for a constitutional amendment on the budget, for example, and simply delayed action on several other bills. President Clinton's promise to veto any far-ranging welfare and budgetary proposals also crimped Republican plans, and by November 1995 this threat had produced a bitter standoff that resulted in the temporary closing of the federal government.

    That's part of the story.

Some were passed. They tried to pass the rest, keeping their word.

A rare feat for modern political parties.

Here we go again. Another thread pointing out the minute differences between the two major parties and ignoring the huge gap between the two major parties and the Constitution.

So what are we comparing here? Bush's 800 billion stimulus to Obama's 784 billion dollar stimulus, neither of which has worked.

So what else are we comparing? Uncontrolled borders before Jan 20, 2009 to uncontrolled borders after that date?

Social Security and Medicare headed for bankruptcy before and after the change of administrations?

Why is it that we measure success by how many laws get passed instead of how they line up with the Constitution?

Why is it that during the Bush Administration, the same people who were complaining about a lack of bipartisanship are now the ones obstructing?

Why is it that Obama and his idiot Congress got elected in the first place? Could it be inept and liberal Republicans who for eight years broke every conservative principle that ever existed?

Why is it we refuse to see the liberty and freedom slowly draining out of our hands, we the people, over decades of swapping power back and forth between two parties that are nothing but self-indulgent slobs, that have no respect for decency, the Lord, or the Constitution?

Why is it we see thread after thread comparing the Holiness of God to which party is closer, when we know in our hearts that both are a stench to the Lord, and if ever a country deserved His wrath, it is ours?

Why is it that election after election people listen to Republicans talk about family values, morality, and freedom of religion, yet we elect people like Sanders, Ensign, Vitter, Foley, and toe tapping Craig?

As pointed out in another thread, Obama received 69 million votes. How many "Christians" does that number include, when this administration does not just give a wink and a nod to abortion and gay rights, but rubs it in everyone's face?

How many of the 59 million that voted for McCain were conservative and thought they were doing this country a favor?

Could it be that most Americans are sitting around a TV nightly and watching who can dance the best or which 400 pound blob can lose the most weight, never giving one bit of thought to what is going on around them, and if they were, would have no idea what the standard of the Constitution is?

Could it be the reason we keep sending this trash to govern us is because we have lost sight of helping others, and are so centered on ourself, that we believe they are going to make things easier than they are, dumbing down self responsibility?

Funny, the ones we send are but a reflection of ourselves. Maybe this is exactly what we deserve. We had better wake up and soon, because any casual observer can see the pattern we are on cannot sustain itself.

I was off topic in that thread?

Or are you again going to misrepresent my words in that thread as you did there?

And then refused to cite examples when challenged.
