This coming Sunday will be the last Sunday before the New Year.

Will your message be a "New Years Resolution" theme?

If so, do you have a title?

Sometimes we do this, but not this year. Our senior staff has consistently used the two weeks following Christmas to allow some of our other pastor teachers to have an opportunity to speak. They can talk about what they choose.

Starting the second week in January we take three weeks to talk about our purpose as a church, our vision for the church, and our missions engagement as a church. It is important times for us to keep the vision alive before our people. :)

In years past I have used the new year time to speak about making decision, finding purpose, etc. Its a good time for it.

I am doing a Christmas message that day. My encouragment for my people will be to keep Jesus out and worship Him year round instead of putting Him away with the Christmas decorations.

I am doing "Getting Over Your Past". It's my first and last non-expositional message of the year.

PAUL – GETTING OVER THE PAST MEANT SALVATION.

SAMSON – GETTING OVER THE PAST MEANT ONE LAST OBEDIENCE.

DAVID – GETTING OVER THE PAST MEANT HE HAD TO PAY THE CONSEQUENCES FOR HIS DISOBEDIENCE.
    2 Samuel 11-12

PETER – GETTING OVER THE PAST MEANT FOCUSING ON LOVING JESUS.
    John 21:15-19 -

    4 GOALS FOR YOU:
Ø IF YOU’VE NEVER BEEN SAVED, DO IT TODAY.
Ø DETERMINE TO MAKE 2010 A YEAR MARKED BY OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD.
Ø UNDERSTAND THAT THE DECISIONS WE MAKE WILL HAVE CONSEQUENCES AND ACCEPT THAT AS PART OF GOD’S WORK IN GROWING YOU
Ø MAKE THIS THE YEAR OF LOVING JESUS!

When I came to my current church four months ago they had not baptized anyone in almost two years. But, I praise God that we will be baptizing the second person this Sunday. This person is older and made a decision to follow Christ several years ago but never followed through with believer's baptism. God has been working mightily in this person's life bringing this person to this point. I am praying that the rest of this person's family will soon come to know Christ. Anyway, Sunday's sermon is about baptism and celebrating a child of God moving forward in obedience to Christ's command. What a great way to close out the last Sunday of '09. I'm not trying to trivialize this but it's going to be fun! Call it a holy joy.

    Christmas Gifts Yet to Come

    Isaiah 9:6-7

    1) The gift of good government is yet to come.
    2) The gift of perfect peace is yet to come.
    3) The gift of judicious justice is yet to come.

    OUTSTANDING!!

It's not trivial to call it fun! We baptized 20 last year, and we clapped and cheered when each one was baptized!
