The Lords Day is not the Jewish Sabbath, that I will say. Neither should we treat it as such.

  3. Which Jews?

Are you referring to the "Keepers of the Law for Justification" i.e. Judaizers or the Christian Jews?

There is a lot of variation of interpretation on the Christian Sabbath and reverencing the Lord's Day.

    http://sovereigngracechurch.com/?page_id=12 link to 1689 Confession

We don't go the Jewish way (no electricity) or Amish (no cars). But we do reverence the day. But we follow the principles of the Confession on worship and observing the Lord's Day.

    We pray
    We read Scriptures
We preach/hear the Word of God
We teach and admonish one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs
    We baptize
    We observe the Lord’s supper
    We worship
    We encourage fasting

We believe that all parts of worship is not tied to or made more acceptable by any place in which it is performed

We spend the Lord's Day in worship, family, rest. We don't have sports, going out shopping, getting gas, frivolous activity, etc

With my Jewish heritage our family chooses to start at sunset Saturday thru sunset Sunday. Again, lots of variation of application.

We are not "legalistic", but emphasize proper observance in all our families. We won't kick out someone who doesn't hold the same ideas of all this.

The Confession spells out "As it is the law of nature, that in general a proportion of time, by God’s appointment, be set apart for the worship of God, so by his Word, in a positive moral, and perpetual commandment, binding all men, in all ages, he has particularly appointed one day in seven for a sabbath to be kept holy unto him, which from the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ was the last day of the week, and from the resurrection of Christ was changed into the first day of the week, which is called the Lord’s Day: and is to be continued to the end of the world as the Christian Sabbath, the observation of the last day of the week being abolished.

The sabbath is then kept holy unto the Lord, when men, after a due preparing of their hearts, and ordering their common affairs aforehand, do not only observe a holy rest all day, from their own works, words and thoughts, about their worldly employment and recreations, but are also taken up the whole time in the public and private exercises of his worship, and in the duties of necessity and mercy."

  5. Thank you for your diligent reply Elder Bob.

I think some folks do not accept the Lord's Day. Perhaps they could share their approach to this Day, to the glory of God.

We accept the Lord's Day just not as a Christian Sabbath with its' list of proscribed or discouraged practices. I believe I am fellowshipping with God and His people by being busy on Sunday preaching 3 times, meeting with people and enjoying a meal in a restaurant where we enjoy the good things of the Lord with my own family without my wife having to prepare the food, cook the food and then clean up afterwards.

Sundays are the Lord's Day because I give it to serving Him and spending time with His people.
