Harold Camping is at it again. It seems he didn't learn from his failed "prophecy" that Jesus would come back in 1994. <groan>

This is how Camping figured it out (from same article as above):

The sad thing is that a lot of Christians will believe this. He has his followers.

There is a couple that used to attend our church who follows him.

Naturally they don't attend our church any longer because we're in "error".

They caused a lot of trouble while they were there.

Given: Barney is a CUTE PURPLE DINOSAUR
    Prove: Barney is satanic

The Romans had no letter 'U', and used 'V' instead for
printing, meaning the Roman representation would for
Barney would be: CVTE PVRPLE DINOSAVR

    CVTE PVRPLE DINOSAVR

Extracting the Roman numerals, we have:
    CV V L DI V

    And their decimal equivalents are:
    100 5 5 50 500 1 5

    Adding those numbers produces: 666.

666 is the number of the Beast.

    Proved: BARNEY IS SATAN!

Did they try to get people to leave church? Camping teaches that the church age is over and everyone is only supposed to meet in homes. If you are in church, you are apostate (unless he's changed that lately).

Isn't it generally agreed that Jesus was born between 7BC and 4BC according to our current calendars? That would put Jesus death between 26 AD and 29 AD, not 33 AD.

If that's the case, haven't we already missed the rapture?

I was wondering if he knew Edgar Whisenant, but I did not know that he had died a few years ago.

I've just been made aware of some of this stuff but yes, there was one couple they've tried to get to leave the church. She also spoke to another woman telling her about this stuff but didn't tell them to leave the church.

Yep - When I found out about this family being into him, I had to do some study. NOT happy with what I read and it certainly made me first of all pray for them and second of all get armed in case she approaches me about it. I'm sad that such a smart family fell for such inerrant teaching. :(

Funny - but that is about it when it comes to applicability to the Bible statement in Rev 13 that the "number of the name" is 666.

The one instructive thing that comes out of the joke in the post above - is that it shows the classic error of mixing an english name with Roman Numbers.

For this to have an ounce of plausibility then at the "very least" you need to be using a Latin name when applying Latin Numbers-for-letters.

Then at least the joke has "one leg" to stand on.

    in Christ,

    Bob

Camping is a very intelligent, thinking, proud fool. I'm afraid it is pride that stands in the way of him or his followers seeing his error.

Even better is to use Greek or Hebrew/Aramaic, since those are the actual languages used in the Bible.

I would agree with Hebrew numbers for Hebrew letters - but in Rev 13 the entity being described is Roman. Thus the language that the Rev 13 entity would select for naming itself is not at all likely to be "Hebrew".

In the Rev 13 context - whatever this beast is -- is setting up its own version of an image and a mark - and enforcing that system world wide.

We know it is of Roman origin since it takes over from the same power in Rev 12 that tries to kill Christ (pagan Rome) and it also is described in Rev 17 as "Babylon" and Peter indicates that this was the name for Rome in his letter.

So "latin" wins in this case.

    in Christ,

    Bob

But don't forget, Hebrew and Greek have words for Roman things, and these add up to 666 as well:
    ROMIITH; LATEINOS (founder of Rome)
    QSR NRON (Nero)
HE LATINe BASILEIA (the Latin Kingdom)
And here's one for the Church: ITALIKA EKKLeSIA

If he is teaching that all churches hve become apostate and should be avoided, what is his solution? Listen to him?
