Hoyer says Americans are wrong

I think it's supose to be the other way around, we tell them when they're wrong, we are the voters, and we are supose to be voting for people who best represent our values as a nation.
but if what we've been getting is a representing of the values of this country, we're in more trouble then anything political.

 

I agree. Increasingly it appears that once elected "our" representatives don't really care to represent us.

I am not sure of the answer, maybe they shouldn't be on the federal payroll, but rather paid by the state that elected them. It just might change things a little if their salaries, health care, and pensions were decided by the states that they represented.

 

Also, if we went back to the way our founders set up the government in the constitution..... where the state legislatures chose the Senators and not the popular vote of the people.... The Senators would be more inclined to consider the power of the State legislatures to remove them if they did not represent the interest of their respective states and its people as opposed to loyalty to party and lobbyist and expensive campaigns and special interest.

 

I agree with the premise. However in this day and age of corruption at many state levels I kind of like the idea that the people can vote out senators, rather than a handful of people making that choice in some back room.

 

I used to think so too, when I first learned about this change.... and then I got to thinking.... our Representatives are close enough to their districts that we can, if we're studious, keep a check on them and what they do. vote 'em in and vote 'em out..... but our state senators are both party dependant and voter dependant... and its the ones with the best campaign financing and ties to special interest which promote their campaigns that gets them elected...... and not really us though we vote for them.

.... and they hardly ever report back to their constituents or act like representatives of the states authority.... which our founders intended. They are so removed from the voter that it takes a real scandal before we hear that they've failed us in some major way. But if our state House was responsible for choosing them.... our Senators would have to consider the plans and resources of the state first and foremost over clicks and special interests groups from outside the state as the state would have the power to place them and remove them.... less along party lines and more within what suited the plans and budget and the people of each state.:flower:
