Toyota and the Union-Backed, Government-Led Witch Hunt

    by Brian Johnson

Toyota, which employs over 35,000 workers in the United States with factories in eight states, is the target of a government-led and union-supported attack due to recent recalls.

    SNIP

...So why has Toyota suddenly become the target of a government-led witch hunt?

Toyota’s U.S. operations are extremely successful, not saturated by inefficient union monopolies, and are in direct competition with the now government-owned General Motors.

As always, you shy away from the truth of the subject matter in favor of being critical of the source.

And as always, that tactic reveals your basic ideological weaknesses.

Do something original for a change and address the subject...or is it too truthful for you to handle?

That you, of all people, would try to make this argument is hilarious....

Interesting timing on this post. On the way to services this evening, I was thinking about this very topic. It seemed very odd to me that Toyota is getting slammed on all these recalls. Every vehicle I've ever owned has had some recall or another, yet never before have we had such a media sensation about it.

I would imagine the folks at Audi would disagree with you. Remember the events surrounding the Audi 5000?

Regards, glad to hear you got to services tonight. I was on a conference call at work that went well beyond the start time for mine....

Don't forget the Ford Explorer tire issues from a while back. I read the article, and the author wants to blame everything on Democrats, even the actions of the Republican secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood.

It's fairly evident what is going on. Toyota has a sterling reputation for quality, but they have never had a recall when in competition with Government Motors.

This is a warning to us all of the dangers of government being in competition with private industry. Government always has the advantage. And in this case, congressional committees have a clear conflict of interest with their investigations.

You don't really think there would be so much bad press and so many "investigations" if it was Government Motors with the recall , do you?

Perhaps carpro doesn't know about the whole Corvair incident, among others......

As I recall the Corvair incident was due to a book - Unsafe At Any Speed - written by Ralph Nader and not so much by government actions.

But the recall did indeed happen, and it was all over the press.....

I drive a red 1990 Chevrolet Lumina Euro 2-door coupe. I love my GM car so much; it never gives me problems except for when my dad and I had to replace a CV joint. Carpro, what kind of car do you drive? Is your username "carpro" because you're an automobile professional?

Right but the chain of events was liberal Nader wrote the book...

The book was widely publicized by the liberal press because they supported liberal Nader...

The recall was issued in response to the ginned up furor over the news stories.

    So what?

GM was General Motors then (an evil corporation), not Government Motors, as it is now.

Evil is your word, carpro. Why do you believe that GM is evil?

I've owned more GM vehicles than you have fingers and toes. I have favored them for many years.

As long GM is owned by the government (after stealing it from the shareholders and debtors, I might add), I'll never own another one. Ever.

I hope you don't shop at K-Mart. It was stolen from the shareholders as well. The same goes for several of the airlines.

Does the government own K-Mart, or any airline?

It was stolen from shareholders. I used your phrase.
