Keep in mind, Canada only has a population of 30 million to draw from. We have a pretty good showing per capita. Why are you doing so poorly?

    Cheers,

    Jim

Let's see. Switzerland has a popualtion of under 8 million and they have 8 medals now. Norway has a population of under 5 million and yet they have 12 medals. Proportionately, they are doing the best.

Germany has 18 medals with a population of 82 million and they have 18 medals.

China has a population that's about 4 times that of America however they have only 5 medals.

Canada with a popualtion of 34 million has 9 medals. That's better than some, but worse than others. But Canada has had this reputaton of being a winter sports giant. So far that has not been realized.

Anyway, with 24 medals presently the USA can't rationally be ranked so dismally.

Indeed. Would've made a gold medal game for the ages. Let's see what the Canadians do with Luongo.

I stopped watching Olympic hockey when it became an NHL All Star game.

Have you watched Canadian curling? The Chinese team that humbled the USA earlier in the day conceded to the Canadian team after the 7th end.

Too bad...the girls gold medal game was great. I will record the men's game if it conflicts with church....I haven't checked the time yet.

How about not watching basketball because that is an All-Star game too?
Think about this, we watched the men on that Basketball team gain patriotism by playing for their country!

The Canada vs USA game was a horrible game....3 penalties at one time!!! Stupid hockey, Even the Canadian players admit they didn't play well at all.

They are playing better tonight, and should they win, will face the USA on Sunday for the gold medal.

On sports in general, I prefer to watch the kiddies playing at any sport. I do watch college basketball and wouldn't miss the Final Four series. Professional sports is not an interest to me. It went beyond "a sport" many years ago.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Should be a great game regardless of the outcome.

    NOoooo

Canada just beat out the U.S. in speed skating taking the gold. They now have 12 gold medals, more than any other country including the U.S.'s measly 8 (at the time of this posting).

It's a win-win in this house. madre's half Canadian (her mum is the notorious Ontario Clipper - a devastating wind from the north that leaves destruction in her wake, eh) so we can cheer for both sides of the border. Mens curling!!:thumbsup:. We just watched the medal ceremony. madre was crying. I'm not sure if it was out of joy or my singing along with O Canada!

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Win-win for the hockey, too. I'm waiting to order the Canadian jersey. I prefer the white with the red male leaf. I'm a bit of a slob so it would end up white with red maple leaf and coffee stain.

Right, because gold medal count suddenly becomes more important than overall medal count when it's China in the Summer Games, or Canada in the Winter Games, who's leading in golds. Then, if the Canadians aren't beating the U.S. in hockey games, medals (not even gold ones) per capita becomes the thing to talk about.

I am Canadian and I don't even know the medal count. If I watch a game, it is the game that counts and sportsmanship, not which teams are playing.

I have always highly regarded and American runner from the Olympics at Expo (Montreal) Bruce Jenner..He won five gold medals and waited to greet a man who came in totally battered and bruised and last by hours. Jenner waited to shake his hand and welcome him to the finish line. Jenner was a most magnanimous of athletes in my mind and always will be. That is the apex of olympics to my way of thinking.

    Cheers,

    Jim

What a great, great effort by the U.S. hockey team versus a vastly more talented Canadian team (I heard a hockey earlier today say that only three of the U.S. players could have made the Canadian team - that's how deep the Canadian team was).

Congratulations to the Canadian team for winning the gold medal.
