New U.S. senator helps Democrats advance jobs bill
    7:11pm EST

    By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - A modest job-creation bill advanced in the U.S. Senate on Monday as the chamber's newest Republican bucked his party and sided with Democrats on a $15 billion package of tax cuts and highway spending.

Republican Scott Brown joined four other Republicans, 55 Democrats and two independents to overcome a procedural hurdle that sets up a final vote later this week.

Brown was widely hailed as a conservative hero after his surprise victory in Massachusetts last month gave Republicans enough seats to block most Democratic legislation.

Aren't Conservatives supposed to like tax cuts and jobs. Seems some are never happy. Why am I not surprised.

Maybe it's because the dreaded Democrats are involved. Or perhaps they are just hypocrites.

Is Scott Brown the only Republican voting for this ? It doesn't appear so.

Four additional Big Government GOPers voted for this, also. However, conservatives haven't been going wild over them like they have Scott Brown.

You are not surprised because you have no idea what the term conservative means. For your consideration, the term Republican is not the same as conservative, and is almost synonymous with your liberal Democratic heroes.

    Hmmm...

I can't think of anyone anywhere that promoted Brown as a "conservative".

Scott Brown, IMVHO, used health as a tool to get to Washington. I don't necessarily blame him for that. He is a typical Republicat politician. Say what people want, then get to Washington and do whatever you want.

    No surprise here.

This statement is not exclusive to Republicans but rather describes most politicians in general.

For example, Obama ran on a platform of "transparency", "no lobbyists" and an "ethical administration".

When something is a bad idea - No is the correct response.

You like to use the little "laughing" icon alot.

I suspect it is more an expression of your frustration at the stalling out of the liberal agenda than anything that you actually find funny.

So, are you saying that cutting taxes and creating jobs is a bad idea?

Hmmm, I guess your nasty tone shows frustration.

Cutting taxes ? It depends on what taxes and how much.

Creating jobs ? Will the particular proposed tax cut create jobs?

When Carter tried it - it did not work.

Employers hire because they need the workers - because they have work to be done but not enough labor for the job.

I have been an employer and I can tell you that no company hires an employee that they do not need just because they can get a tax break.

All that happens is that my tax money gets redistributed to someone that was already going to hire someone anyway - tax cut or no tax cut.

It is a complete and absolute waste of my tax dollars. Tax dollars that I could have spent productively and in turn have created a real demand for an additional employee somewhere.

Tax cuts to companies to hire an additional employee is monumetanlly idiotic idea being promoted by a bunch of people who have most likely never even held a job in the private sector - let alone been an employer.

Oh, so you are one of those who say "Cut my taxes, but not others."

Go read up on the bill that was passed so you do not make such silly statements showing great ignorance.

What did Carter try that didn't work. Is our world still the same one as when Carter was president?

And if work is needed by being funded by this bill will not employers need workers?

    So?

    You just contridicted yourslf.

What infrastructure projects were you going to fund?

Again, read the bill so you will know what types of jobs will be created. Don't just spout from ignorance. You should so much like another BB member I am beginning to think it is one person writing under two names.

No, I said exactly what I meant.

My position on a tax cut depends on what tax, what purpose and the effectiveness of a particular tax cut.

I do not support just any tax cut for the sake of tax cuts alone.

I do not oppose just any tax cut for the sake of opposing tax cuts alone.

I am well aware of the proposal - a $1,000 tax credit and no social security taxes on that employees wages through December.

Big deal. No company would hire an employee that they do not need just to get a $1,000 tax cut. It is nothing compared to the cost of hiring an employee.

No company is going to hire an employee that they do not need just because they won't have to pay social security taxes on that employees wages through the end of the year. It is nothing compared to the cost of hiring an employee - especially an employee that they do not need.

Carted gave tax credits to employers that hired new employees.

    It was a failure.

Companies did not hire employees that they did not need just to get the tax cut.

Companies that were going to hire employees anyway - because they need the additional workers - simply took the tax credits.

The tax credits did not create any additional jobs.

    Is that even a sentence?

"Shovel ready" jobs was the song and dance that they gave us with the first gazillion dollars bill.

    It didn't work.

    The government can't "create" jobs.

The government can only take our money and spend it for us. That adds nothing to the economy. It only wastes our money on foolish things meant to reward their pals.

    No jobs will be created.
