Several years ago, the majority of Republican candidates signed the "Contract with America". They specifically promise ten actions.

Should the Republicans do the same this year? If so, should Senate candidates also be part of it?

Should repeal of the Health care bill be priority # 1?

If the Republicans do a new contract, what should be the top 10 priorities?

#1: Tell the truth! Quit lying to us, or feeding us half-truths. And yes, you guys have lied just like the D's. Maybe not as much...maybe not as many "whoppers," but face it: We don't trust you very much, and it's because you're not very trustworthy.

#2: Every last one of you soundrels pledge: No more than 3 terms for house folks, and 1 (or I could maybe live with 2) terms for senators. Sign your name to it...and agree to be pubilcly called out (and summarily fired) if you break this promise. Most of your problems are that you're more worried about re-election than doing the job you've been called to do.

#3: Enforce the stinkin' 10th amendment. Not to mention 1-9...but a re-emphasis on 10 would cover a multitude of sins.

#4: Pass the Fairtax...or something close to it. Quit making our tax code worse by tweaking a 45,000 page behemoth, which only adds to it.

#5: End Abortion--at the very least, allowed only if the mother's life (not health, but life) is in danger.

#6: Take a 10% pay cut every year that the budget is not balanced. Better yet, pass a balanced budget amendment...a real one.

#7: Dismantle several of these bloated fiefdoms that rob our freedom and ruin our republic. Start with repealing Obamareidelosi-care. Then move to the Department of Education. Better yet, just keep removing stuff your whole time you promised to serve. I doubt you finish before it's time for you to go home.

#8: Post bills online three days before a vote. Have a one-page synopsis written by a member of both parties, to be placed with the bill, so that bills that are hopelessly cross-referenced and lingoed to the teeth can be understood by literate Americans.

#9: Quit gerrymandering districts! Both of you losers (D's and R's) do it, and it is a fundamental cause of our problems. Currently, the D's are trying to figure out how to cram as many R's into one district as possible...and we've got some D districts (particularly majority-black ones) that have a fraction of the numbers of folks that others (in the same state) do. Many of us are terribly under-represented.

#10: Start doing stuff because you care about America and it's future. Half the crap you guys do, you're doing to get a photo-op, or you're doing to needle your enemy. Start doing the right stuff for the right reasons, and you might find out we appreciate it!

#Bonus: Make the stunning realization that it isn't your job to make people be nice. It isn't your job to keep people from making bad decisions. It isn't your job to make people eat carrots instead of chips. It isn't your job to turn all of us into saints. And it's not your job to insulate us from any and every bad event that takes place in this cruel world!! Just fulfill your constitutional role, for crying out loud, and quit this "utopia-building" ego kick you've gotten on.

Ya'll think those are pointed...you oughta hear what I'd tell the D's! (but then again, this is a family-friendly board :D :D ).

When the Republicans proposed their contract they were supposed to lose in the senate. They won both houses and could have passed bills on all the items but only introduced legislation on half.

The people on this list who classifying changing one's mind as lying would, by applying the same standards, have to classify the entire Republican party of those years as liars.

Interesting statement, but now will you answer the question?

Should the Dem's also have a "Contract" so we know exactly why we should vote against them.

Bill, # 9 - Congressional districts are a state or Commonwealth responsibility. Congress has no say in it.
So each state or Commonwealth should also have a contract with (State).

One thing to consider is that all districts, Congressional, state assy, ect are to be equal. Now, we know that is not precisely possibly, thus there can be a +/- 4%(?) margin of error.

The problem here in New York is that all districts in New York City are + 4% (for Congress, State Asy & senate), and upstate is mostly a -4%; therefore, New York City (mainly Dem's) receives extra seats.

I could live with the Fair Tax, but I prefer the E-Tax.
    Lets fix it.

It seems only right to have a new contract with America... the Dems have put out a contract ON America.

I like rbell's list. I would be a bit harder on them in specifics, but term limits and being accountable in both words and actions would go a long ways. The idea of putting bills up and making them readable is a great one.

I like the idea of the Fair Tax. I am not completely clear on the specifics of it, but it is loads better then what we have right now.

What's the point of a new contract when they refused to honor the old contract?

Think Pete Townshend: "Meet the new boss/same as the old boss...won't get fooled again".

The concept is silly. Candidates do not campaign on their party's platform. It doesn't matter for whom you vote because nothing major will change unless the people who own both parties want it to change.

Our owners love to see us arguing over details that don't matter. The 3 trillion they stole and made to disappear could have paid for all our medical costs for 30 years.

What delusional world do you live in that you think 3 trillion dollars could pay for the medical costs of over 300 million people for 30 years? You realize that would amount to 333 dollars per a person per a year?

    Riiight.

That's precisely the problem...we haven't been voting people out when they refused to keep their word.

Other problems include voting someone in just so you can loot more of other people's stash...or voting for someone simply because a union boss or race pimp tells you to.
