I can relate, Pastor Paul. We were still living in CA during the Loma Prieta quake of 89. Talk about a long 15 seconds!!!! (most of which were spent under a table praying!!) And we weren't even close to the epicenter. Glad you are ok.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area and lived there in my earlier married years, and as you can imagine went through a lot of quakes, large and small, including a 6.2 or thereabouts I believe when I was working in a building with rollers in the foundation. Those tend to keep you safe but boy did I get dizzy! I have to say I do not miss those experiences one bit!!

I've only been in a location where an earthquake took place twice. They were both fairly low on the rickter scale.

One happened during the night while I was sleeping, and it didnt wake me, so I missed it.

The other happened during the day, but I was working 3rd shift then, so I was sleeping during the day and slept through THAT one. :laugh:

I was going to make a joke about missing the "thrills and excitement" of an earthquake, but the Haiti situation :tear: brings it all in focus.

I hope I miss all earthquakes.

 

I felt a small quake in Santa Barbara in 78, I think it was a 5.2. I'm glad your OK Paul, but it does tend to give one the willies.

 

Never felt one and hope I don't! :smilewinkgrin:

 

Was at work during the small quake in central Illinois in spring 2008. It was very weird to have my chair roll across the floor a couple of inches on its own. While I was sitting in it.

 

I too can relate Paul, I was in the Seattle quake of 2001, a 6.8.

I was in the Boeing first floor rest room. I won't go into detail except to say that when I saw the tiles popping off the floor as the waves went through I knew we were in trouble.

Obviously I survived.

I remember reading afterwards of a State representative who was in the state house (Olympia - closer to the epicenter) at the time and how surprised she was at the number of people who prayed out loud to God and how out of character it seemed for certain ones.

I've experienced two, right here in KY! Largest one was 5.2 in 1980.

During the drought of 88 our dug well went dry. I was faced with the dilemma, do I drill a deep well or build a cistern?

I followed a geologist's advice and questioned all my neighbors who had deep wells and cisterns.

Deep wells around in this locale have strong sulfur water.

The two main complaints I got about cisterns were they wished they had built them bigger to hold more water, and, the quake of 1980 had cracked many cisterns in the area.

So, I built a large (11,000 gal) capacity cistern with earthquake resistant steel re-enforced concrete walls (actually i built it like a bank vault).

That was 1988. There has been a smaller (3 point something) quake since then. We still use the cistern, catch rainwater, no problems.

But earthquakes make me nervous.

Glad you are all ok, RD. There have been reports of at least 2 (mild) earthquakes here in WV this year, and I thought our state was safe from those! I don't know if this is a sign of the end times drawing closer, or if we just have more media coverage nowadays. Sure seems like there is a lot of activity going on lately with the weather and natural phenomenon.

 

I am glad to hear you and yours are ok. I am up in Washington State and I read all about this earthquake. It is also very good to hear how you applied what happened with a call to scripture. I have been feeling a bit down lately and for your post on this was a pick me up for the day.
