When The Wife and I were in school (class of '62) the drinking age in NY was 18. The weather in St Lawrence County . . . 9 months of snow and 3 months of bad skiing. Clarkson is 13 miles from St Lawrence. We spent many a 10 below afternoon in a warm tav nursing a $1 pitcher of beer and doing homework.

Where do young people go these days to socialize, be alone, study . . . ? (Back then there were ashtrays in the library <G>.) My youngest would meet her friends in a Denny's but the staff would ask them to leave for not buying enough food. Hard to nurse a cup of coffee for 2 hours.

You went to Clarkson? My daughter went to Madstop (the result of thousands of dollars spent so she could learn to spell Potsdam backward). I get to hang out with a few hundred college kids every day. They seem to fall into two distinct camps. Some of the students are serious about their education. You usually find them in the library, lounge in the campus center or not surprising - Denny's. If they are in groups they are typically 4 or 5 in number.

The other camp borders on feral and run in packs of ten or more. They usually congregate at someone's off campus housing. It's hard to smoke weed at Denny's. :flower:

'bird, that sounds like Lotus Blossom down at the China Buffet except she's yelling, "You go now. You eat too much. Save some for next customer!" :wavey:

It appears I left out 2 major segments of the college crowd. There is the student athlete. You can find them at: 1. at practice, 2. the game, 3. any where you can find girls that like lacrosse players.

How could I forget the hyper-geek. The hyper-geek has no social skills nor do they want to acquire them. Give them a solid wireless connection and a place to recharge the battery on the laptop......
