Never drove one, but did push it! In Saskatchewan, in my early days, the funerals were held in the local church. The hearse backed up, on the turf, to the front door. Rain is a horror story in Saskatchewan along with gumbo clay. The hearse was stuck in the mud. Silly me, all dressed in suit and tie, got behind the back wheel to shove. Needless to say, I got the mud off the wheel from toe to hat, and including my face and I still had the service to finish.....Just wipe the mud from my face so I could see and finished the service.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Why, yes, yes I have. And the passenger in the back was WAY quieter than my kids!

Yes, as a matter of fact, I have. I was a Funeral Director for 30+ years before I retired.

Q: Have you ever driven a hearse?

In addition, the handling was really stiff.

Not only that, but the tags were expired.

There was a chair set up inside the hearse...I asked the driver, "What on earth is that chair in here for?" The hearse's driver said, "That chair's for rigor mortis to set in."

I've never driven one, but I'd imagine it's quite peaceful unless someone taps you on the shoulder from behind.

I want one for a daily driver. I was telling madre my plans for flat black paint, wheels, side pipes and flames on the hood - a regular hot rod. She wasn't buying it and neither am I.

Not a hearse, exactly, but when I was a new paramedic, one of the companies I worked for had some of the last of the old "wagon" style ambulances. That's about as close as I've ever come.

Of course, I'll probably end up riding in one one day.

I drive a hearse regularly, since I work part-time for two funeral homes. It's serious business, of course, but I get a lot of pleasure driving through all those stop signs and red lights, following a squad car with blue lights flashing.
