Taking a thought from another thread, is it okay for a woman to be an ordained minister?

Only if she's teaching women and/or children. If she's teaching men, no.

That's right; the sermon time must never be turned over to women. Of course, somehow a nonresident "special speaker" woman brought in just for a "special service" doesn't really count as a woman now, does she?

From what I read in the Bible, a Preacher/Pastor/Deacon/Elder, etc., is to be the husband of one wife. Women would have a problem fulfilling this requirement.

I see nothing wrong with a woman being trained/educated in this area and feel such training would be of as asset to them in any ministry but certainly not being in a position of authority over men.

No it's not OK for a woman to be an ordained minister. I don't know what Jerome is talking about, but that wouldn't be ok either.

Example: Capitol Hill Baptist Church's bringing in evangelists Amy Lee Stockton and Rita Gould for special services.

I don't know the circumstances, but if they had either of these ladies preaching to the congregation, they were wrong.

Not in this day and age with homosexuality and lesbianism being accepted even by some churches, and them being ordained and allowed to marry.

However, that will always be sin in God's eyes.

For men to be taught spiritual things by a woman is not a scriptural problem.

I personally have learned a lot from women missionaries and missionary wives from more than one pulpit.

FWIW I would also approve of a Christian female professional (Psychologist, psychiatrist, historian or biologist e.g.) teaching both men and women the biblical approach vs. the world view of their profession in a church setting.

But, that is much different than a woman who functions as a pastor having gone before an ordination board and been ordained as a pastor.

    That is not scriptural.

There is a possible exception or two. If a woman goes alone to a remote area and evangelizes that area and there is no Christian pastor anywhere near or one willing to do his duty who will come, she could (IMO) function as a pastor until she trained some qualified men to step in and take over the leadership.

And if qualified men will not answer her call, God bless her then and let her preach the Gospel and teach the word of God to anyone who will hear it, male or female and she can do that without ordination.

Besides all that, who knows the multitude that will be in heaven led to Christ as little ones by women of faith used of the Spirit for their salvation (at home, in Sunday school, children's church, etc).

I'll be the voice of dissent here. My church is preparing to ordain a woman to be our associate pastor. She has already been approved by the ordaining council, and we are looking for a date for the service. I was not part of the council, and I have not had a chance to read the statement of her testimony that she presented to the council. However, I have heard her preach several times, and my wife and I have hosted her and her husband in our home more than once. And I see no need to question her call to the gospel ministry.

I know that everyone who has posted in this thread so far has been opposed to ordained women preachers. I have expressed my views in other threads here, and I see no reason to re-hash my earlier arguments. So, I'm ready. Open fire!

I'm out of step here also, I guess.

I don't think we should be ordaining women OR men.

    I don't believe in a hireling ministry.

I do believe if all ministry was strictly voluntary, some men would stop fighting to keep women out. Not all men, certainly, because I do believe many sincerely believe the Word limits it to men. I'm speaking only of the one's concerned with job security.

At the risk of sounding Clinton-esque, I guess it all depends on what your definition of "minister" is. As I understand the word, no, women are not permitted to be so and I will personally guarantee you that if you take any church that ordains a woman as pastor and scratch the surface, you'll find all kinds of doctrinal problems underneath.

Now, the problem is that "minister" is pretty broad, but I'm going on the assumption that you mean pastor.

Bingo. I've found that to be my experience as well. Every church that I've come across that has a woman as a "pastor" has another non-Scriptural beliefs as well.

    1 Timothy 5: 17-18

"Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages." "

I have worked with several pastors who happen to be women. Generally they do an excellent job, and the Lord blesses them.

The scripture, overall. does not restrict women from ministry; men do!

    Cheers,

    Jim

I don't necessarily mean pastor. I believe there can be other staff members who are ordained ministers, i.e. the children's minister, i.e. women's ministry minister.

More times then not, they are not ordained, but can (maybe should??) be.

Really? Good gracious alive. I don't know what's worse, the idea that you think it's ok for a woman to be a pastor, the idea that you think God blesses female pastors, or the idea that you cannot see the clear teaching of the scripture against this and you yourself are teaching others.
