Good for Reformed Theological Seminary! Waltke basically denies the literal creation account and now he's held responsible for that view.

Yeah I do agree with the need for resignation. He stands for something the seminary doesn't, it was time to go.

    Evangelical defection on evolution.............

Well, I wonder how many faculty are theistic evolutionists in the closet at Reformed. There are some worrisome trends among some evangelical scholars. For example, Douglas Stuart, who teaches at Gordeon-Conwell, espouses this view, although he uses the word creation, in his OT lecture series for RBC Ministries. OT scholar Tremper Longman has expressed his support for theistic evolution and doubts the historicity of Adam. Dr. Vern Poythress of Westminster Theological Seminary has expressed his theistic evolutionary views in his book Redeeming Science. And Westminster is enthusiastically promoting the book!

    Anyone care to comment?

    Bro,

This is the same liberal pendulum swing which happens every so often. No worries; the conservative resurgence will strike again!

That is a subjective question. I would personally say it has to do with people having a willingness to compromise God's Word, a desire to "fit in" with the intelligencia of the day, and an overactive human pride.

Some claim it to be more textually faithful to word for "day," but I disagree.

Anyway, let's stay on topic and not get into a creationism debate.

All of the guys mentioned seem to claim their reasons as overwhelming scientific evidence. Well, the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly against the virgin birth, the resurrection, etc. So, in the final analysis, what is our final authority?

You can’t ignore the creation-evolution debate, that’s what got us into this mess. It's really why Walke took the step he did. It forces others to begin to deal with the topic.

Re: the remarks regarding the virgin birth, it is off topic and doesn’t prove any point; the debate regards God’s method of creation not whether he performs miracles, with any creation model God is working out his way.

The goal is truth. Our data is God’s revelation, both general and special.

As an elderly theologian Bruce Wilke already has proven his repudiation for excellent scholarship.

Whether you agree with him or not, he knows that doctrine derived from scripture is best integrated with the created world we live in.

The future will show that his stepping down was a courageous act and a cowardly chapter in the seminary’s history.

    **********
Conservative resurgence? .... the truth will eventually become the conservative position.

The truth is God created the world exactly how he said it in His word. Those who don't agree (and hence teach theistic evolution, old earth, or some other un-biblical secularized dogma) need to stay out of our seminaries.

Again, good for the Seminary, for standing up for truth.:jesus:

I didn't know that was their claim. Reading them where I have, they cite a textual reason. They're not the "well, culture says this so let's bow" kinda people.

havensdad is right. Creation is ultimately a theological issue since the Bible speaks to it. And our theology must stem from the Bible and proper exegesis.

    Modernism...................

The problem is epistemology. We are using Modernist methods and epistemology for our scholarship. BTW, you cannot brush away the Virgin Birth, miracles, etc. by saying they are off topic. No, they are related because it is the very same rationalistic methodology that leads to questioning and ultimately denying these tenets. Do you not know the history of the rise of Modernism/Liberalism? It is simply that when one begins to to value naturalistic rationalism equal with revelation, the naturalistic arguments always seem to win.

BTW, where have you been? We have been addressing the creationist-evolutionist debate for as long as I can remember. Furthermore, God's general revelation is limited to His power and glory whereas His special revelation is specific and literal. Aquinas made the same mistake.

Finally, "[d]ead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour (Ecclesiastes 10:1)." If "[a]s an elderly theologian Bruce Wilke [sic] already has proven his repudiation for excellent scholarship," he did much to soil his reputation for orthodoxy if not his scholarship in this fiasco.
