They has been a lot of talk here about how our representatives are bound to vote according to the whims of some supposed will of the majority of the people in their district.

Okay, lets lay aside all of the issues associated with that concept and try to figure out how that would be accomplished practically. I pose the following questions.

How would the will of the majority in each district be decided?

Who would carry out the poll?

Would the polled be required to read through each bill before they could give their opinion?

Who would decide what group would be polled to represent the will of the district?

Should representatives be bound by the will of their constituents generally or the country as a whole?

Should representatives ever be permitted to vote according to their own wisdom and research or are that bound by some kind of plebiscite for every bill?

How 'important' would a bill have to be before a representative was required to go to the polling process to get his/her orders?

How much revenue would have to be raised in order to pay for this process?

How would members here respond if the majority of their congressional district wanted a constitutional amendment guaranteeing full civil rights to h0m0se*ual couples and their Christian representative were forced to vote for that bill?

    That's enough for now :)

Yeah...that's enough for now, and that's enough to know you have no idea how the American voting process works.
All of the above questions are answered in the voting process.
When you obtain American citizenship you will be required to know this and all your questions will be answered.
(And if you are already an American citizen, then you must be a '60's college graduate, (ha-ha...that's an oxy-moron), then try to work through the haze and remember this..........
Socialism only works until you run out of other peoples money.

Governance by poll is a red herring C4K. Surely you have no problem with citizens making their opinions known?

"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration."
    - Hillary Clinton

“So I thank all of you who have spoken out for your courage, your point of view. All of it. Your advocacy is very American and very important."
    - Nancy Pelosi

Thank you for so eloquently making my point nonsequitur. There is nothing in our political system that says our representatives are our puppets. We elect them and if we don't do the job we vote them out next time. Nothing says they are vote casting machines that need to poll their constituents before every vote.

We will see in November if the American people REALLY opposed the HCR bill.

Few people outside of the political process really understand how absolutely ridiculous it is to suggest that we should be governed by polls.

Our county was founded on some significant principles to protect all of our freedoms. One of them is the idea of due process. If you have watched anything about polls following significant, nationally emotional events is that people will react emotionally. This is why lynchings and vigilantism are absolutely not good things...they frequently get the wrong people.

The last thing we need in this country is a poll based system of governance. People would be happy to take away freedoms from others, enforce undue laws on others, and remove protections for the minority (not ethnicity here) in favor of the majority. This is not American it is not how we should operate.

    VOTING

    1. admit that the Constitution does not require a secret ballot

    2. Post names and addresses on all county voter rolls

    3. Post all votes and voters on line in down loadable format

Everyone can make his own count and check for dead neighbors voting. Every vote can check his own vote.

    non - emergency LEGISLATION

    1. Any voter can post his proposal for a new law as a ballot petition

    2. voters have 30 days to sign on

    3. If 10% of the voter roll signs on the Atty General has 30 days to put it into legal language.

    4. the voters have 30 days to vote.

    5. if it passes there is a 90 day waiting period for legal protests before it goes into effect

Actually, Americans will do everything they can to vote out virtually every member of Congress who voted for Obama care - that is every member except their own, because their rep brings home the bacon.

Solution - Congress no longer doles out $$$ to States and individuals. Not only would Congress be operating according to the Constitution, but they no longer be bought.
