Is all of Scripture equal or are the "red letters" more important?

Seems like I vaguely remember some Timothy passage or other...something about "ALL Scripture is God-breathed..."

Ya'll remember something about that?

    Hmm - lightly recall that.

And when we match that with:

2 Peter 3:15-16: "And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. "

OOHH!! OOHH!! What is that?? Peter, did you say that Paul's letters are SCRIPTURE????

Moses was a murderer. Joshua killed people in battle. Samuel hacked Agag to pieces. David was both a murderer and an adulterer. I guess Paul fit right in with all these other biblical authors.

And then there's that pesky thing about God forgiving sinners who come to Christ in faith...

I agree Trotter, but Jesus Christ is still my Lord,...not Paul.

Typical liberal spin. Libbies have a difficult time twisting the words our father in heaven spoke through Paul because they addressed specific issue related to the church. And Instead of seeing the miracles of Christ in the context they were intended libbies like to spin them into their ungodly social justice agenda. The Miracles were about showing who Christ was. The justice Jesus came to effect was accomplished on the cross. Thats it.

    That is pretty silly.

In 1Thess 2 Paul says that the NT saints took his teaching "for what it is - the word of God".

2Pet 1:21 Peter says "Holy men of old moved by the Holy Spirit - spoke from God".

Thus it is the "Word of God".

Christ Himself says that God's word "cannot be broken".

1Cor 7:19 Paul says "what matters is keeping the Commandments of God".

In Acts 17:11 Paul himself has his own teaching vetted "sola scriptura" to see IF his Gospel message "was true".

And remember - Jesus did not sit down and write out the book of Matthew. Matthew wrote it years later as an inspired Gospel writer.

    in Christ,

    Bob

This is how denominations begin. Now we are going to have the "Red Letters" versus the "Anti-Red Letters".

Online, there's the "Blue Letter Bible." Maybe that'll fix it!

I say you give each of us several beads. and we will go through the entire NT voting on what's most important or more likely to have actually been said by Jesus. the more beads the likelier its true.

"All scripture" as Paul said. It is also good to pay close attention to the red words, compare them with yourself, and other scripture. Jesus wrote all of it. It also reminds me of the transfiguration when God said you had Moses, then the prophets, now pay attention to Jesus' words.

HA HA! That sounds vaguely familiar, but perhaps we should color coded the beads instead.

I do think the red letters are more important than, say, some of the genealogical material found in Chronicles, for instance.

The red letter edition simply makes it easier to find the words Christ spoke while on earth.

Yep, I have dealt with red letter liberal before. In my experience they were an angry bunch to deal with. Paul was nothing but a male chauvinist pig as far as this group of women were concerned. They demanded the right to choose which verses of the Bible are legitimate and which ones are not. They tended to believe that the Bible contains the words of God as opposed to being The Word of God. Red letter adherents belief is based in out right heresy. If you are a pastor do not allow this heresy to gain a foothold in your church. This is a hill worth dying on as far as I'm concerned.

At the other extreme are those who ignore or reinterpret the Gospels (including the 'red letters') in light of what they think Paul is teaching. The Apostle Peter warned that, already during his time, there were those who were twisting Paul's writings--which contain things hard to understand (2 Peter 3:16)--to their own destruction (The heretic Marcion was a prime example of this a generation or so later).

We should avoid both heretical extremes.
