... most of us don't realize that a soldier is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to their country for an amount up to, and including, their life! That is an honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that kind of patriotism!

Being a soldier is not an entitlement... being a soldier is no longer an institution they are drafted into... being a soldier is completely voluntary, and this is why we owe them our appreciation and deepest gratitude. They somehow had the ability to look beyond their own life in a way that meant they'd have to lay down their life for you and me, all in the name of freedom. :applause:

If you are thankful for your freedom. ...THANK A SOLDIER! I thank every soldier I see (at the gas marts, in the super-marts, and at the malls). I truly appreciate their willingness to do what the majority of Americans don't want to do, or, even want to acknowledge... being a soldier means they fight for those who protest against their involvement in a war they didn't chose to be in... being a soldier means that they sacrifice more than the average American citizen can ever hope to sacrifice in the name of patriotism.

They are our true heros... and unlike Hollywood super-stars - who earn millions of dollars per movie - athe American soldier doesn't always live to make an appearance in another movie. Their death, and life changing wounds/injuries are not only real, but, forever.

Pray for our military, their families, and for our GREAT country. And pray that we will never have to see them fighting our enemies in our backyards. :praying:

:tear: It is because of their ultimate sacrifices, that all Americans must strive to assure that this nation of unique freedoms, continues to stand strong before those who practice evil, tyranny, and terror. We must honor their sacrifice and make sure that America continues to proudly be the standard bearer of democracy around the world.

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul

My friend Dennis, who's a member of my Sunday school class, joined the Marines.

    Your Friend is Truly Brave

First of all, I like your name, Paul. Could that be because I'm a "Paul" too?

I'm sure you are already doing this, but, I'll join you in prayer for Dennis. I nearly went to Nam. I was standing in line at the Oakland Army Base, and I had just gotten off the bus, from the airport, and while I was waiting to get my bunk assignment, there was a role call, and a few hundred of us lined up. A Sergeant counted off 50 men, and I was number 51. The first 50 got back on the bus, and were shipped to the airbase outside of Sacramento, and flew immediately to Nam.

God was watching over me that day, because I came down with a sore throat, and while I was at the Presidio Base Hospital, the doctor discovered my heart murmur. From there I was sent back to Fort Ord, and 8 months later, given a discharge.

Not that I wouldn't have done my very best in Nam, but like so many others, it was a scary thing to have to do.

When I went through my 5 days of Viet Nam Training at Ord, I was tagged "killed" in both sessions, each of the five days. Everything from a sniper, to a boobie-trap, I was thinking that this may have been a "bad-omen."

Still, I know what my brothers went through over there, and I think of them in nothing but a frame of mind that tells me just how brave each and every one of them were!

This goes for the soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are extremely brave, and deserve nothing but our praise for doing what not too many others won't do, in order to keep us free, and safe in order to complain about Bush and Obama, and Clinton, and Reagan, and Carter, and you get the point.

I'll go one step further... I care about OUR soldiers. I don't think THEY should be ordered to fight other people's wars. I pray for them and I have family members among them......

And I think the best support our people could give our soldiers is to stop these people in the WH and the Congress from sending them to fight wars based on false pretense. They deserve better. And we also should back them and demand that if they go... that they are given every advantage in terms of men and armaments and sheilds and training to win and come home. It is not about nation building.

If people in another country hate each other so much that they can't form a civil government.... why don't we get the well enough out of there and let them kill each other. We send our strongest and our bravest over.... and deprive them and ourselves of their talents and skills and protections here at home... and salute them as they die.... or return with shattered minds and bodies.... our best, our finest, while we're stupidly distracted by war.... we let our government tear apart our own economy.... the price of war over there.... the bailouts which promote theives here and the stimulus which does nothing to help people keep their homes or helps businesses keep their employees and jobs....

If we really care for our soldiers... we'd do more than weep over their graves and wave flags on their return....... we'd do what we could to keep them home and out of unnecessary wars! If we really cared for our security..... we'd seal our borders against illegal entry by aliens, and use our military there if necessary. We'd work on our economy and ensure that those who are discharged have jobs waiting for them.

    We'd stop these senseless wars.

Vietnam was intentionally a no winner... we left it as we found it... a divided nation..... and my generation lost some of its finest there. The same happen with my dad's generation in Korea... we didn't win.... it was intended to be a no win war...... and we left it as we found it.... a country divided. Unstable to this day.

Like the military... we trust our leaders.... even when they are wrong... and we follow them and are too slow to hold them accountable. The rest of the world looks upon our judgement and thinks of us as foolish .....that we claim we are the government and then let our leaders carry us away on their flights of fantasy.... as they plan the new world order.

Remember, May 15 is Armed Forces Day.

Some 20 years ago, thur a radio promotion, I started an Armed Forces Day celebration in Syracuse. We have continued that tradition, and now it is held in conjunction with the Syracuse Chiefs Baseball game.

How to celebrate Armed Forces Day

You think that it would have been fine to let the Taliban and Al Qaeda continue to run training camps in Afghanistan producing thousands of jihadis, even after they declared war on America and attacked us numerous times? South Korea has been stable and prosperous for over 50 years due to our involvment there. Was that nothing? Most of the vets of Viet Nam are proud of their service and felt they were doing a good thing over there, and don't really care if the rest of the world thinks we're foolish.

If this is true, we should bring our troops home from South Korea then, right?

You darn tooting! I was a Goldwater girl..... wanted us to win that war in Vietnam... supported our soldiers, wept over the death of friends, trembled when one brother joined the Army and another went for training at Quantico. I thought we were there to win. I thought we were there to stop communism.

No. Our soldiers then didn't have much choice. Most were drafted.... and fought courageous in spite of it not being their choice in most instances. All fought for us. They weren't foolish. But we were.... the whole nation of sheeple were foolish to let our government and the people behind it moralize us into a war..... draft the young and innocent and send them over to die or return broken in heart, spirit, and body.... to a nation of unappreciative commie protesters.

Our soldiers aren't the blame for wars. Our government is. If we really support the military we should insure they aren't used for prolonged or unjustified wars.

Who is the illuminati? What do you know about the Bilderbegers? Who are the members of the Trilateral Commission? How does the Council on Foreign Relations promote an agenda..... and who are its members? How is our debt connected to the Federal Reserve? Is the Federal Reserve really 'federal' or what is it? How is it tied in to the IMF? How does money and debt control the governments of the world? Who are the major cash ins in stock sells the immediately before 9-11, and how did this differ from normal stock sells and fluctuations? Why weren't our borders closed to all but legal crossings? Were the WTC towers white elephants.... difficult to rent and renovate due to the asbestos in the building? What secrets and investigations were destroyed in the towers and WTC 7? Did you know that Sadam Husein wasn't a very 'good' moslem? (When he made a visit to Mecca..... he required a coach to help him with his moslem prayers.) Who furnished Iraq with weapons and gas and biologicals? Who helped to furnish weapons and funds to Al Queda? How was the CIA connected to Saddam Hussein, OBL, the poppy fields of Afghanistan? How has 9-11 altered our laws? our economy? our politics? the lives and hopes of our young people and the world their inheriting from us?

Finally, is war a necessary 'evil' for our defense readiness? Is war necessary for the control of conflict....... IOW....... does it promote 'peace' by controled conflict??

Does James....particularly chapter 4 have any insights for our edification as Christians relative to war?

Would it matter if we had been defending OUR coastline and national borders? They attacked us because we let them in.

    Dear Windcather...

... I can really see your side of the post... however, I ask you this... what would your attitude have been back in, and around 1776? What would your thoughts be about Pearl Harbor, and the killing of millions of innocent Jews in the German death camps? What would you have written when the British tried to retake America in the early
    1800's?

No one wants war, let alone those who have to fight the wars. In fact I've always thought that if the war was important enough for the country to fight, than it's leaders should be the first ones out there leading the way. After all, that's what our nations first president did. He lead the men into battle, risking his life in each battle.

The fact that there are men and women sitting around in DC debating and making crucial decisions about "Rules of Engagement" would see the situation much differently and be more willing to lift those "rules" if it was their body that was being shot at.

I know we need leaders to make decisions, but, even in the Bible, the Kings went to war with the armies, and that demonstrated how important that war actually was.

You have some good points, but, like it's been pointed out, the army of this nation are always following the direction of the leaders, who meet in DC to decide how the war is going, and what, in their opinion, should be done to win the war?

The Bible (Eph. 6:10-12) tells us that we will always have evil surrounding us, and there will never be a day - until after the Kingdom is established, and Christ rules again - where this nation, or, any other nation, can escape the probability of war and all its horrors of fighting and killing other humans. We fight to remain free from the tyranny of evil. There are pockets of evil present all around this world, and while Paul is talking about a spiritual war, we should remain "awake, alert, and cognizant" to the possiblities that this presence of evil influences mankind and that influence often results in wars, and rumors of wars.

    Shalom,

Maybe you would and maybe you wouldn't.
What you 'know now' is just like me and everyone else who reads these boards and have read or studied history.... what we've been told and not what we've experienced:

Tonight in my constitution class, for example.... I first learned that the settlement at Plymouth.... was by pilgrims from Amsterdam (which I already knew).
BUT, they went to England.... and remained there for 7 years for 2 reasons:
    1) to get a ship's passage to North America---which was easier than ----
    2) to get a contract from the King for a land patent for their settlement.... so they could own and possess land, free and clear of all encumbrances from the King of England.

Our fore fathers.... were schooled primarily from Blackstone's Books on Natural Law... and the Bible. Above all else.... they knew law and government and taught the same to their kids. Their vision for the United States of America under the law of the constitution was much different than that which we have allowed to develop from our own abandonment of the education model which gave them confidence in individual freedom and confidence in rule.

We have lost so much ......... and that by default due to our own ignorance and the dumbing down of our education..... and, without knowledge.... we have no idea what imbeciles we are in lacking appreciation and failing to recognize the fullness of our heritage. The faults we complain about and attribute to our constitution..... for example.... are not faults at all within the construct of the constitution. The constitution neither gave permission nor prevented slavery....for example: The Declaration of the thirteen united States of America set forth the conscience of which the government under the constitution was established. The preamble to the constitution set forth the 'we the people' agreement by which the several individual governments of the states were united and strengthened to keep the peace among themselves for the general good and preservation of liberty and to provide for justice and the defence of all. Neither slavery nor indentured servitude were addressed in the body of the constitution as permitted nor denied.... until the 13th amendment. Slavery was a fact of life permitted in Europe, England, North America and South America at the time of the Revoluntionary War. Contrary to what many people believe or have been taught... The emancipation proclamation only ended slavery in the south: It still continued in the North for a while..... and there free blacks were not tolerated well after the CW. The slave trade between Africa and the USA had long stopped before the CW..... but not the trade of blacks between the states of those already here..... particularly with engagement of the Northern marketers coming south to participate in trade. The constitution did not form a conscience of thought or law which supported slavery..... and the Declaration in fact, made no distinction between race or color or origin, but attributed the rights of all men as equal and given by their Creator. (It should be noted here that this document makes no distinction as to citizenship or race or immigration status. This is not always acknowledge.... but it doesn't take a long examination to come to this conclusion provided one is open to the question.)

I'm not sure what kind of argument you're making. I don't think it is possible to keep out everyone who means us harm. Even the Russians, under Putin's iron rule could not keep out terrorist bombers recently.

Well you've got most of the CT bases covered there, and I know you buy them all, but I don't.

Following WWII our priority was to stop the spread of communism, and thus the wars opposing it. I do agree that our political leaders lost the will to win in southeast Asia. If they had continued to provide air support or even military aid Viet Nam may have ended very differently. But we elected a Congress full of anti-war folks and they had their way.

The US supplied Iraq with very little of the components used in making WMD. They were mostly dual-use chemicals and legal for Saddam to buy, and he bought them from all over the world. The US did not invent or fund Al Qaeda, AQ had their own sources of funding. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq kept AQ too busy on defense to attack us here, and it worked too.

    A Quick Question, windcatcher

Hey, just where are you taking class on the Constitution? Is it at a Christian based school/college, or, at a community based/public college/ school?

Just was curious as to who you are listening too as a teacher on the subject of American Constitutional law, etc.
