Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See [thou do it] not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Is the one here that John falls at his feet the strong angel in Rev. 18:1 or another angel? If he is an angel why did he say that he was John's fellowservant and of his brethren, like he was a Jew? He also said that he had the testimony of Jesus and the spirit of prophecy which I thought was something that only the redeemed could have.

    In A Sense...

... the angels are no more special, in the eyes of God, than we are. That is why the angel told John NOT to worship him. When it comes down to, angels are not even on the same level as us. Remember that God "created us in His image."

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:3 - "Do you not know also that we [Christians] are to judge the [very] angels and pronounce opinion between right and wrong [for them]? How much more then [as to] matters pertaining to this world and of this life only!"

With kind of position awaiting believers, is it any wonder that John was admonished when he started to "worship" the angel?

Bill Graham wrote the foreword to a book authored by Paul E. Billheimer, titled "Destined for the Throne". I would recommend this book to you, as it explains our place in the will of God and in relation to things to come.

Like the author explains, we are in an "On-the-Job-Training" program while on earth. We have yet to arrive, but, all of us are destined for the Throne!

I hope this helps you a little. I know there are so many different views when it comes to what is written in Revelations, so, what I gave you above, may, or, may not be what others believe. However, Paul was confronted by the Lord on the road to Damascus, and I think if anyone knew something about heavenly beings, it was Paul. That is why his words in the above verse are so "life changing for me!" To think that God loved me enough to save me is mind blowing! But, to know that my overall destination is to have some form of power over His angels... well, that is beyond mind-blowing!:praying:

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

Maybe you misunderstood my question, Paul. I know we are not to worship angels. I wanted to know why the angel used the verbiage he did that made it appear he was not an angel but of the brotherhood of the jewish people. Go back and read my OP and see if you get what I am asking. Thanks.

    Hebrews 1:14 says:
    Daniel 12:1 says
Maybe the angel is simply telling John that his job is to watch over John's brethren believing jews from the tribulation period. I am coming at this from a pre-mill, pre-trib pov.

Now as to whether this is the same angel as 18:1, we're really not told.

Because he was a created being like John and not to be worshiped. He was there to point him to Christ.

Thanks for the effort, Rev. Mitch, but maybe I did not make myself clear on what I was asking. I think Tom Bryant understood my question and I do not know how to make myself anymore clear on it other than to say why does the angel present himself to be John's fellowservant instead of a spirit sent forth to minister to him. Thanks, anyway.

The point wasn't about being a Jew, but a fellow servant. Not of the same kindred but of the same position - Servants.

He was a servant of Christ just as John was a servant of Christ.
Angels do not differ with men in our position when contrasted to God. Both are servants and therefore in that, they are brothers (of the same type).

In niether the Greek or English is this 'verbage' is linking race but is specifically relating opperational status with God. This is not, and I repeat NOT, stating the angel is of the of the Jews or related to them racially. We know this for two reasons:

    1. The statement regards being a fellowservant... one who is a servant just as John is - thus the term 'fellow'. The 'and', meaning - in addition to that (that, being a servant of God like John is) conjoins the position of servant of God with/to that of being a fellow servant of Johns brethren as well. IOW- Not just a fellowservant with John but all those who serve God. However do All serve God, or is the brethren refering to Israel? No. See #2

    2. These 'brethren' are of those who have the 'testimony of Jesus'. This excludes the Jews AS A people group and focuses on the redeemed who are made up of not only Jews but Gentiles as well.

    Hope that helps.

Do you have the same thoughts relative to Philippians 2:7? I mean his position relative to God after the incarnation. If not why?

There is always room for interesting questions.
