I found the following Snopes approved statement from a past president to be nothing less than amazing, and refreshing. It is just too bad this way of thinking has all but been buried under a mountain of Political Correctness.

President Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But, this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Maybe the printed media should get the courage to simultaneously run this statement on the front page of every American Newspaper on this year's Fourth of July ???

All I can say is, "WOW!" That was true in 1907, and it should resonate loud and clear as the same truth in 2010. America has fallen off the path of what made this nation a great place to live, BUT, I doubt if we'll ever get back on that path again !!! :BangHead:

:wavey: While I would like to believe that no one on this forum/board could argue or disagree with Teddy, I'm sure there are some of you who would be ready, willing, and more than able to argue that this was not the way to treat our visitors and potential naturalized citizens! :sleeping_2:

    Thanks....

Somehow, I knew in my heart that you would like this post. Blessings.

BTW, it is nice to see a photo of you and your wife. It's great to put a face with the words on the screen.

Will miss "Casper" but, again, like the photo of you and the love-of-your-life!

BTW, I'm sending this statement from Teddy to my papers Letter's--to-the Editor. Maybe a bunch of you guys can do the same, and Teddy's views can make it into print. A lot of people do read those Letters-to-the-Editor.

Thanks, RD2. Yea, I really liked old Casper, too. He and Popeye were among my favorite cartoons as a kid. The picture of my wife and me was taken last November at Tallulah Gorge State Park. We went up for a day and had an awesome time. The weather and scenery were beautiful.
