According to media reports, Ted and his wife, Gayle, have filed the official paper work with the State of Colorado to incorporate their new church, St. James Church in Colorado Springs, CA.

As for Haggard, I have my own feelings about whether he is really ready to preach an un-compromised Gospel message, following his passive approach to the subject of homosexuality and the right of Jennifer Knapp, a Christian Recording Artist, who outed herself as a Lesbian, and continues to sing and perform in churches.

This debate with Ted Haggard, Ms. Knapp, Larry King and Pastor Bob Botsford, Senior Pastor at Horizon Christian Fellowship in Rancho Santa Fe, CA took place on a recent Friday night telecast of Larry King.

Haggards statement on Oprah, leads me to believe that he is still struggling with homosexuality, and I question his spiritual ability to actually lead a body of believers, especially if he is unwilling to confront and denounce the practicing of homosexuality as a sin.

On Oprah, Haggard had this to say about his own sexual orientation after his being exposed and removed from the church. "Ted admitted to Oprah that he does not think he's gay, but that he falls along a complex spectrum of sexuality. While Ted shared that he is in love with his wife and has an intimate sex life with her, he still has homosexual thoughts and desires and has for the majority of his life."

The supporting info in this post leads me to the question of this post: DO ANY OF YOU HAVE QUALMS WITH HAGGARD REPRESENTING GOD IN THE PULPIT ON SUNDAY MORNINGS ???

AND, do you believe that he has put his homosexual sin behind him ??? Or, will it resurface at some point down the line and cause another scandal for Evangelicals and the Evangelical churches in America and around the world ???

FINALLY, will his soft, passive approach toward homosexuality, as exhibited on the Larry King Show in regard to Knapp, send the wrong message to those who claim to be born-again believers even though they live in an open homosexual relationship with a member of their same gender ???
    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

This case is truly sad, no winners. If Mr Haggard has repented of the sin, and is on fire against it, then yes, no problem with him pastoring a church that will call him. This is one of those situations brought up in another thread that I would not ban a person for life.

I've heard from the Haggards about this situation. I do believe he has repented of his sin and is living without unconfessed sin in this area. That said I think he has disqualified himself from pastoral ministry for a time and senior pastoral ministry for life.

S3xual sins are particularly disqualifying and in this conversation they have tried to gloss over that issue. What about the two (plus?) men he sinned against? What about the church he left in ruins?

Pastors are called to a higher standard. He one isn't up for it don't be a pastor. He has disqualified himself from being a senior pastor.

If he has truly repented, this is where we part company. I do not believe this warrants a life time ban. Enough time probably has not passed, but that is too extreme. There is nothing more destructive than the church gossip, and it runs rampant across the nation will little or nothing done about it.

He Is Not Speaking Out Against Homosexuality

I did provide a few sites on this. Ted is not making himself clear as to whether he has truly separated himself from the gay life style. It is clear in his defense of Knapp, that he is refusing to make a stand and condemn homosexuality, and that causes me concern.

Check out the Oprah and Larry King transcripts. You'll see that he is clearly saying that he still has lust and yearns for sex with his own gender. Although he claims he is beyond the sin, I think it will continue to pull on him, and what guarantee does he make that he won't fall again.

And more importantly, after hearing him on King, I think he clearly sent out a message that it was OK to be gay and a Christian.

If I misunderstood him, please show me where, and, I'll cease having concerns. Until than, I think he is at risk for further hurting the witness of the church in a world that has watered down it's stand against sin, and in this case, homosexuality.

My daughter thinks that it is my problem, not hers, that she confesses to be a born-again believer, and a practicing lesbian. And Ted is one of the people that she is quoting me.

Sorry, he has not yet shown me that he is willing to tell the world that homosexuality is a sin and it will keep you from heaven if you continue to live the lifestyle.

I think you misunderstood my post or I failed to convey the concept. If he is has not repented of the sin and willing to go after the life style with a vengence, then, no, he has no business in a leadership position of a local church, under any circumstances. What I did say, and where I depart from the other poster is, that if he in fact has repented fully, and some time has past to show his life is in the will of the Lord, then and only then, can he resume being a pastor, and that is only if a local church calls him and votes for him to lead them. Under those circumstances, no, I do not believe a ban for life is warranted.

Wonder what part of BLAMELESS or BEYOND REPROACH are difficult for that perv to understand?

Amazed at how sin is justified and duped people just say to such vile offenders "forgive" as if there were no consequences.

Would YOU sit under a man like that?

Would YOU allow your son to be counselled by a man like that?

Not in a gajillion years. :(

I disagree. I'm not saying he isn't a Christian or shouldn't have some place in ministry. I am saying he has no business being a senior pastor. He has, by his actions, completely disqualified himself.

I don't know how the gossip thing is applicable, but I will here state my case for why Ted is disqualified from senior pastoral ministry.

While in a position of significant prominence and leadership Ted took deliberate steps to enter into s3xual sin with several individuals. One of them was a young man, under the pastoral ministry of Ted, who was taken advantage of through Ted's spiritual authority. As well through this episode Ted has brought damage to the name and reputation of the church and spiritually damaged those under his pastoral ministry.

Upon his confession of sin Ted willingly submitted to the authority of other pastors for an extended time of rebuilding and spiritual restoration. After only two or three months he walked away from it and used his position to cast aspersions upon those who were trying to help him. By walking away from this restoration process, Ted has removed himself from the ability to re-enter ministry as humility and submission to leadership is part of that process.

Pastors are called to a high standard. It is a reasonable standard but a high one. When any pastor commits the acts which Ted committed against other people he disqualifies himself from continued pastoral ministry. I don't know of any well schooled/trained/called pastor who can honestly say "Well I just didn't know I could commit ________ act with someone." The obligation to fidelity of purpose, calling, and purity are the hallmarks of pastoral ministry. When a pastor willingly steps away from these, abused those under his shepherding ministry, and then makes a buffoon of himself by castigating the church he damaged further disqualifies himself.

Could you honestly trust Ted to do honest, sacrificial, pure ministry anymore? Is there any suspicion about his aims and lifestyle?

I uphold the role of pastor because the church is that important. Those little ones (spiritually, emotionally, physically) we have an opportunity to guide are precious people for Jesus. When a shepherd starts destroying his flock we must say he is no longer qualified to be a shepherd.

The church is too important and too pure to suggest that someone who has willingly committed acts against her is able to reassume a pulpit ministry.
