I really am not into Southern Gospel, but my wife wanted to go to a concert with some of her friends, so I went. I discovered that I really enjoyed the event. I was thinking when he sang "I'd Rather Have Jesus" that this guy really means it. He has changed his style to more of a country sound, yet still Gospel. I am sure he makes a good living doing what he does but he is probably missing out on millions in country music if he wanted it. It is a real blessing to see someone who really would "Rather Have Jesus"

If you have not hear "Sometimes I cry" I suggest you look it up on YouTube. I found it to be so true.

I have a CD by a 15-year-old boy that has a song, "Take the world, but give me Jesus." It's very similar to, "I'd Rather have Jesus." Personally, I LOVE southern gospel music--especially quartets.

Me, too. I dont question their sincerity at all, but I just dont like that genre.

Give me CCM, or Gospel Bluegrass.

I've seen him on TV singing this and then they cut in George Beverly Shea singing it. The young man does well on it but I love hearing Shea doing it.
Never seen him in person, but he seems to be one I would enjoy seeing in person. Thanks for sharing.

I can't imagine what George Beverly Shea went through growing up with the middle name of Beverly. I know from personal experience how cruel children (and especially teens) can be. I love His singing though. Another great but not well known singer is Alan McGill, a white haired man with a great voice. I saw him in concert twice and bought 9 albums (33 and a third for those who remember them) of him.

You say that you love southern gospel quartets? Have you ever listened to a quartet called Legacy 5. If you like southern gospel you would probably like them. Pretty cool story behind how they got started.

Beverly was a man's name when he was growing up.
