MacArthur needs to look back on his own life first and pick the log out of his own eye first. When I first heard him preach many doubted that he would ever make it because of his arrogance. I have seen a huge change in him since.

Well I love and appreciate Dr. MacArthur's ministry. He has taught me much. Sadly one thing that he has taught me is to Not create s ministry based on constantly running other ministries into the ground.

Too much of what I read from himis about making points at the expense of other ministries. When this happens it is too often based on preference Rather than deep biblical doctrine.

But in this specific instance it isn't any issue of preference. Joel is truly teaching a false gospel. I'm glad John made these comments. I don't think we should ever shy away from calling wolves out for what they are.

Some years back Osteen said "From now on sin, Satan, and hell will no longer be on the menu at this church. From now on we will only talk about the goodness of God."

This was kind of like listing to a Catholic priest, talk about how unbiblical the Mormons are.

    He was right, but........

Other ministries??? Joel Olsteen doesn't have a ministry, he has a feel-good, psycho-babble, New Age false gospel - "another jesus", "another gospel" from "another spirit" (and not the Holy One either), as the blessed Apostle Paul warned against.

Good for MacArthur to give him a verbal slap upside the head and that he took him to task - were to God there were more men willing to confront so-called 'ministers of Christ'

Olsteen doesn't belong in Christian ministry - any man when asked point blank as he was on Larry King Live if Jesus was the only way to salvation and have him hum and haw rather than declare unequivocally "YES PERIOD" deserves to have his 'ministry' taken away from him tout suite!!

Whatever you want to say about Joel Osteen's ministry I can at least say for a fact that the Gospel is presented at the end of every service. I've been to Lakewood before and have several colleagues who have been through as well and there is a clear Gospel presentation.

I don't care much for Joel's preaching (for obvious reasons) but there is life change happening in people who attend his church.

It just seems odd to me that every time John MacArthur is trying to gain ground and make a public statement like this it is always at the expense of another ministry. Most of them, most of them are non-essential issues. He just seems very typical of an older mindset in ministry.

I have never agreed with MacArthur and Osteen. The problem is that both men start with presuppositions.

"Man is unwilling to come to God. (20:45-21:02)" How does that compare to Hebrews 11:6, "And without faith it is impossible to please [Him], for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

Deut. 4:29, ""But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul."

Deut. 6:5, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."

Deut. 10:12, "Now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord's commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?"

Deut. 11:13-14, "It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the Lord your God and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul, that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil."

If he does, it is not part of the TV program, unless you count the part where he asks people to recite the sinners prayer.

You are way out of line. That is complete rubbish on your part to say the basis of his ministry is to run other ministries to the ground. John MacArthur is an expository preacher. He is also polemical. He tries to protect the sheep from the ungodly.

Buy a clue. You are speaking out of ignorance at best or something much worse.

He was right. There are no ands, buts or ifs.

They are polar opposites. All people have presuppositions. You have a great deal of presuppositions.

Ask the discerning Christian which person is to be preferred and the choice will be Macarthur -- hands down.

Yes they are opposites. The truth is what scripture teaches and both of them do not always teach what scripture does.

If this is true what you say, I somewhat doubt Osteen will turn into a John MacArthur.

MacArthur couldn't give Os teen a better gift. Although the things MacArthur says may be true, it will have little effect on Osteen's church or ministry except to cause people to feel he is being picked on. Now, if MacArthur would learn to attack Osteen's beliefs without attacking him personally, more good will be done.

What I have found over the years that as much as we dislike some preachers God often uses them to get people to listen. Some of my family have come to Christ because of some of the TV preachers but have moved on to a local church where there is an excellent pastor. I am the first person to become a Christian in my family. Most of my family today are believers living for Jesus.

When I think of a number of preachers I think are poor I also think of what Paul said in Phil. 1:15-18, "Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will; the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice, yes, and I will rejoice."
