    I realize this thread may not belong in the translation section, but I feel that it is best answered by those who really dig deep into God's word and are concerned with bible versions.


    Here it is: I find that many of today's expository preachers are reformed. Why? I find this very unfortunate, not because I have arrived at any 100% conclusions, but I feel it does great damage to those who are not reformed. For instance: I love Charles Stanley, but obviously he does not preach on the expository side of things. MacArthur and Piper do. My Pastor is expository and not reformed. However, he is not completely Arminian. I guess I just wonder why those who are not reformed lack in expository teaching.

    Let me add this. I truly respect my pastor because he is not 100% on either side of things. I respect that because I sort of believe that is where I am as well. In my opinion it just seems that reformed preachers are more concerned with expository instruction than topical sermons.

    Where did you get this idea? I am not reformed, yet every preacher I have ever sat under has done expository preaching and teaching, although it takes place more in Sunday School and not as much in the preaching service. We have been going through 1st Corinthians for the last several weeks.

    As an aside, I personally don't care how the word is preached as long as it is preached via the leading of the Spirit of God.

    Some are more strict in their definition of the word expository carrying its application to the extreme. In seminary, my preaching professor stated that expository preaching was the only legitimate form of preaching. Of course I never recall him being able to emphatically prove this from God's word.

    Personally, I've heard some God's inspired, life changing homilies, topical sermons, and expository sermons. My personal preference is open to all. I don't want to be enslaved to just one style just because a preaching professor or some name brand preacher says it's the only way to go. I'm more interested in the direction of the Holy Spirit. I mostly preach expository (going through books of the Bible) but I will interrupt the series, without reservation, if so led by the Lord.

    I could not down load the article, so it may have defined expository preaching. We had an expository preaching pastor who would go through a book of the Bible verse by verse. Verse by verse preaching was his idea of expository preaching. Under that definition, even our Bible study lessons are not expository Bible studies. In our Bible study lessons in July, we went through I Cor. by only using selected portions of the book to support various topics. To me, that was a topical Bible study; but then it depends on how you define an expository Bible study.

    I consider my current pastor a topical preacher bcause he selects a topic and then picks scriptures to support the topic. He is not a Calvinists.

    Dear brother I don't believe this is a reformed/non-reformed issue at all.

    I think it is a passion for the Word of God issue. I am reformed but I know many on the other side of the fence that love God's Word and they preach and teach the Bible in an expository fashion.

    Maybe your struggle is you are comparing those who are in the lime light. With that I have to say I agree that it seems that our of the "famous" preachers and teachers the reformed guys are expository.

    Nope, Dr. Luther Door (NOBTS) Good professor (probably long retired)-I just disagreed with his strict adherence to expository preaching
