Deportation of illegal immigrants increases under Obama administration

In a bid to remake the enforcement of federal immigration laws, the Obama administration is deporting record numbers of illegal immigrants and auditing hundreds of businesses that blithely hire undocumented workers.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency expects to deport about 400,000 people this fiscal year, nearly 10 percent above the Bush administration's 2008 total and 25 percent more than were deported in 2007. The pace of company audits has roughly quadrupled since President George W. Bush's final year in office.

Interesting how some will not give him credit when he does what they have been asking to be done.

How much help was Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Az. to getting the number up? We have went to long allowing illegal immigrants in, both parties. Try crossing into Mexico illegal.

Obama deserves no credit. The laws that are regulating the activity currently being enforced were passed under Bush.

I don't think anything will do much good concerning illegal immigration until we secure the border, and I don't think either party wants to do that.

What bothers me as much as anything about our immigration problem is Mexico's hypocrisy. I worked with a man who was born in Guatemala, which borders Mexico's southern border. He told me that if the Mexican authorities catch people crossing the southern border into Mexico, they just might get shot or put into prison. Yet, the Mexican diplomats act like we have no right in protecting our borders.

Just curious, exactly what did Obama do for that large number of deportations?

The report states they expect to deport 400,000. So how many did they actually deport?
And keep in mind, as we deport, more keep coming over.

So lets assume that 500,000 are deported.
With over 10 million, we are seeing only 5% of all illegals deported. It would take 20 years to deport all. But in those 20 years, how many more would come?

Arizona has the right answer. A report stated that many Latinos are having garage sales, and leaving AZ either for Mexico, or other States or Commonwealths.

I know that Regan had an immigration pgm. He meant well, but the system was taken advantage of.

Its not time to bite the bullet.

Do you want to deport over 10,000,000 people? If so, where do you think the money will come from to do so?

Self deporting or merely moving to another state?

We need comprehensive federal reform of immigration. Without federal reform then after the U.S. Supreme strikes down the unconstitutional provisions of the Arizona law the people that "self deported" may move back to Arizona.

Comprehensive federal reform of immigration, in my opinion, is threefold: a path to legal worker status for those immigrants that do not have it, an ongoing worker program for those desiring to come here and work, and consistent enforcement of tough penalties on those who employ people who do not have legal worker status after the previous two steps have been implemented.
