I was reading the other thread about lack of commitment to other translations and thought this:

For a KJVO person to expect others to be NIV only or ESV only etc is like arguing with a "Jesus Only" person as a trinitarian.
You argue that all three persons of the trinity are God and the respond "at least stick up for what you believe and say only the Father is really God"

Well, that is totally antithetical to our point.

We are in fact arguing against one version onlyism.
The whole point is that ANY time that you elevate a man made translation as the standard, above the original texts is simply an incorrect position.

    Hi Dale-c

Your point, hits on the point that I have always been trying to make.

“One version onlyism”(as you put it), is vitally important, because a Christian needs a FINAL AUTHORITY in their life.
Without that, their faith is baseless.

Of all the English Bibles available today, the KJB, is the only one, that even comes close to being a Bible we can trust with our life.

Can you show your presuppositions from the Bible? I find this to be more superstitious than Biblical. God gave us the Bible and He did not say it was the KJB.

    Hi Ruiz

The point that I was making, had less to do with the KJB, but mainly about the importance of having “one” Bible, that is your FINAL AUTHORITY.

On whose authority can you make such a claim?

My "Final Authority" is seated in the heavenlies. And he can speak through a multitude of Bible versions in a multitude of languages. He is not limited to one young and imprecise Bible translation

    Final authority = God's Word.

Obviously, that answer isn't good enough, just like the gospel isn't good enough for some people.

    Hello Ruiz & C4K

Let me restate my answer to your questions: Last night it was late and I was tired.

    Ruiz, you asked......
    And C4K, you asked........
No, I can not show you any Scripture to support what I have said, but I said it “on the authority” of the Holy Spirit.

I say that because, for the last two years that I have been here, reading what all the Spirit filled Christians on this site have said, I have only heard one English version being suggested, as worthy of being used exclusively.(The KJB)

In fact, on many occasions, it has been clearly stated, that none of all the other MV’s, are to be considered God’s preserved Word.

So if after my study of the Scriptures and following the leadership of the Holy Spirit, I come to a completely different view, what do we do then?

I am leery of anyone who says, I can't point to any Scripture but the Holy Spirit has led me.

    Good morning Tom

May I ask what your opinion is, that differs from mine?

As for the Holy Spirit's leadership; Do you doubt it?

What do you do with someone who brags that he only sins every 48 hours or so and claims an extra-biblical revelation from the Holy Spirit?

    Well sag38

I can only assume that you are talking about me, and as much as I hate to call you a liar, I have never “bragged" that I only sin every 48 hours or so, nor have I ever said that I get “extra-biblical revelation from the Holy Spirit”.

Undoubtedly you were stumped by my questions and your only recourse was to attack me.

    I forgive you.

From another thread that Stillearning started:
    Hi Tom Bryant
    Thanks for your response.
    --------------------------------------------------
I don’t consider myself “more Spiritual”, simply because I am careful not to sin “every day”.......
    Matthew 26:41
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.”
(And let me be clear, I did not say that I didn’t sin at all:)
If a day, lasted 48 or 72 hours, than I could not make this statement!

A quote from STillearning from this thread:
No, I can not show you any Scripture to support what I have said, but I said it “on the authority” of the Holy Spirit.

I have no reason to doubt the Holy Spirit's leadership in your life.

But in following the same Holy Spirit, I have come to a different conclusion about there being only 1 preserved translation.

Claiming the Holy Spirit's leadership in a certain area is not a guarantee of being right.

Oh, and when I made that stetement about the Holy Spirit, I was referring to the Holy Spirit, within each of you.

The bottom line is, in order for us to have a "FINAL WRITTEN AUTHORITY" in our lives, we need “one Bible”, that we believe to be God’s Word.

Ok, I'll take your word for it. You were not bragging and I apologize for jumping to that conclusion. Now, where is the apology for calling me a liar and the accuser of the brethren.

Perhaps I have been too blunt but I am only trying to point out to you what appears to be a prideful stance. "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." 1Co 10:12
Please be careful when claiming revelation from the Holy Spirit for the Holy Spirit is not going to give anyone a revelation that is contrary to the Bible. Such has gotten a lot of well meaning Christians in a lot of trouble.

That is your opinion. And, you are certainly entitled to it but don't expect everyone else to agree with it just because you have strong feelings about your opinion.

    Thanks sag.

I do not have all the answers, but we do need a final written authority from God, in order for us to know that we are heading in the right direction.

And this final authority, can not be two or more Bibles that don’t say the exact same thing.
