What do you guys think will happen with the the 2011 NIV? Do you think it will lean more literal than the previous NIV, or be more along the lines of the TNIV?

Personally, I could care less if it is brothers vs brothers and sisters, but what are your feelings? Really, I think the NLT has covered the more dynamic translation, so do you think the new NIV will be more along the lines of the HCSB?

    Regards,
    Chris

I think the NIV will be very similar to the TNIV, but not identical. It won't be what some tell me they long for: the TNIV with an NIV cover :tongue3: But there will be a striking resemblance. The areas where the NIV needed an overhaul will probably get it, too.

In my heart, I wish the new NIV would be what the ESV and HCSB were supposed to be: essentially literal but very readable. I'd take the best of the ESV, HCSB, NET, and NLTse, along with the best of the NIV/TNIV family and blend them all together and out would pop the new NIV :)

I have great hopes. For me I am really hoping that they don't remove the gender accurate language (ie. brothers and sisters). Though it could be improved in places as a whole I think it has been great.

I'm completely with you. It's about time we translate for meaning.

I really, really like the TNIV, though, so it will take some doing to convince me that the new NIV is superior.

Really? You really mean that? Don't translate the Words? It's OK as long as the "meaning" is there? That's NOT Scripture then, that's paraphrase. :BangHead:

Only 6 posts and we are off and running on the whole literal is better then those word changing, doctrine denying dynamic translations. Nice
