Since I don't visit the Politics Forum very often, I am fairly ignorant of political views around here. I recently heard that libertarianism has experienced a surge in adherents lately as evidenced by an increase in visits to libertarian web site such as lewrockwell.com. I am part of that surge, having recently become fully convinced of the Ron Paul or Constitution Party version of libertarianism. The Libertarian Party itself supports abortion rights and seems to me has become home to atheistic/anti-religion libertarians.

Please vote in the pole remembering this poll is not about party affiliation, but political view. Comments are welcome. Thank you.

Clarification: "Austrian economics" basically stands for limiting government to its strict constitutional role only, or even less. The less the better. That's an over-simplification, but that should get us started.

I tend to come down somewhere on the right side of things, with some libertarian leanings.

But politics essentially amounts to squabbling about how to administer an earthly kingdom. I just don't worry that much about it.

I'm curious as to why you would leave out conservative and go with subclassifications instead, yet you don't have Neo- liberal listed. ????

I've never heard of neo-liberal. What is it?

That explains why you left it out.

Now why did you leave out conservative?

You also didn't include an option for people like me, given that I'm liberal on economic issues and socially moderate. I'm not pro-abortion and pro-gay. On abortion I'm quite conservative since I believe that abortion should be illegal except to save the life of the mother.

I'm strongly pro-life on the abortion issue. We need to build a culture of love and respect for one another. The Church needs to reach out to people and convert them to Christianity. If, as a world, we loved one another with the love of Christ, we wouldn't have all these problems we have today and we could build a kinder, more compassionate society. The only ultimate solution to our social problems, including abortion, is the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

If we have a revival of the Gospel throughout the world, we could establish world peace and work together towards solving problems instead of killing each other. One of the things that saddens me most about the world is war. Think about the advances we could have made throughout history if we didn't have lives needlessly extinguished in warfare, which is ultimately futile,- all of the inventions never invented, the sermons never preached, the children never born, the music never composed, the paintings and sculptures never created. :tear:

The world is going as God planned. The best laid plans of mice and men will not change it.
All we can do is tell people the Gospel.
Wether they believe it or not is not our responsibility.

I do not fit in very many categories.

Economics, I am more Austrian. Yet, I am not libertarian as I reject classical libertarian views on morality (even Ron Paul). Namely, they seem to argue for a view of moral which bases morality on a subjective standard and relegates it lower than the economic views. I reject both of their rationale. Thus, while I agree with Ron Paul on abortion, his rationale is horrendous.

Conservatives, in my opinion, are not much better than liberals on economics and tend to be populists on morality and other social issues. To me, as well, the fall for the fallacy of economics without heart.

Liberals, on the other hand, hold to Keyensian economics. In law, they overstep their bounds (as do many conservatives) to wanting to include elements in law which have no place in law. This is due to their shifting moral tide. Morally, they are bankrupt. They don't care about of either the giver or the one receiving charity, they merely care that they are giving. I find this reprehensible.

What am I? Here is a quick comparison

    Economics
    Conservatives: Friedman
    Liberals: Keyens
    NeoCon: Keyens with some Friedman
    Libertarians: Hayek
Me: Hayek with some earliy Schumpeter

    Social Justice:
Conservatives: Free Markets provide for class equalization
Liberals: Law is the great equalizer of class/race/etc.
Libertarians: Free Markets is good but will not equalize
Me: The only equalizer of people will be a radical change in the heart. The goal is not equality economically but a change in the heart.

    Morality:
Conservatives: history determines morals; they are more set
Liberals: Society determines morals; they are fluid
Libertarians: what harms others determines their rightness
Me: God determines what is good

    Constitution:
Conservatives: Some believe it defines a Christian Country.
Liberals: It is a living breathing document
Libertarians: It is the highest authority of the land
Me: It is a great document but fallible and subject to God's law

    Charity:
Conservatives: Some Government but mostly Charities
Liberals: Charities are good but Government can help better
Libertarians: The private sector runs charities best.
Me: The goal is the heart of the helper and helpee. This is best done through individuals not some hardened government or through big charities.

    Hope that helps.

My politics have changed [still registered as Republican] from Republican to Libertarian over the past decade. I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries 2008, and am a supporter of his son, Rand, in the Senate race here in KY 2010.

For those of you that may not know what is meant by 'neoconservatism':

"Neoconservatism is better described in general as a complex interlocking professional and family network centered around Jewish publicists and organizers flexibly deployed to recruit the sympathies of both Jews and non-Jews in harnessing the wealth and power of the United States in the service of Israel. As such, neoconservatism should be considered a semicovert branch of the massive and highly effective pro-Israel lobby, which includes organizations like the America Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)—the most powerful lobbying group in Washington—and the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA). Indeed, as discussed below, prominent neoconservatives have been associated with such overtly pro-Israel organizations as the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), and ZOA."

I understand completely. I really believe our liberties are dieing quickly. I was just speaking with my wife lamenting our over legislation. really is it governments place to ensure we drive with seat belts on? Or prevent people from riding in the back of pick up trucks? Really, should government enforce manditory car insurance? Or health care insurance? Should cities tell us what to do with our properties? Should there be code enforcement? I understand regulating business so that they don't poison the water or treat people unfairly. However, our country has gone way beyond this. Don't you think?

It is more accurate to say that the LP stance is that the government should stay out of the issue altogether.

I believe the 'camp of the Saints' is slowly, methodically being compassed now, today. There remains no other place on earth for us to escape to. There is no more 'new world' in which to take refuge. This is it.

Why is it if a person is a democrat they are accused of murder of the unborn, yet a libertarian is excused although they think abortion should be left up to the individual to decide?

I'm center-left in political orientation. Socially, I'm fairly liberal except for abortion. Economically, I'm a centrist.

This doesn't always end up neatly in one party or another. For local elections, I voted a straight GOP ticket because of tax policy.

If they support those who promote the killing of babies, they are just as guilty as you are for voting for the abortionist-in-chief.

    Who is excusing?

I recall confronting KenH on that very issue recently.

That lets them off the hook then, because I'm not guilty of any abortion.

Not sure I understand why you think that you are not an accomplice in the additional abortions funded by Obama.

Obama stated his support for abortion prior to the election.
You voted for him knowing that he supports abortion.
Obama has used Federal money to fund abortions.
Votes for Obama put him in the position to further abortion.

    Am I missing something?
