    Why is he your hero?

Why would anyone want to carry around a bunch of dollar coins?

For that matter - why does anyone carry money anymore?

I rarely even have $5 in my wallet.

Debit/credit cards are much more convenient - and you have a record of your spending to boot.

Paul, you're missing something pretty important here.

WHen he comes and gives me some of those coins...THEN he'll be my hero. :D

I'd MUCH rather carry cash. Except for online bill paying, we do everything in cash. A book of 25 checks lasts us 3-5 months. We already have a spending record--it's our receipts, and our written budget.

Not to mention less privacy concerns, etc. And in my undisciplined spending days, cash budgeting was a savior.

But hey, to each his own. Your mileage may vary. If God made both of us the same, one of us would be unneccessary... :D

Because I like dollar coins and he has brought a lot of attention to dollar coins and has got some banks and businesses to distribute them.

I carry money to purchase goods and services or to settle debts.

I'm sorry to hear that. :tongue3:

No they aren't because they don't have the acceptance rate of cash and you tend to spend more with plastic. I don't carry large amounts of cash on me, but I use cash to pay for almost everything on a day-to-day basis. I only use plastic for large purchases, internet, and emergencies.

Back to the dollar coins: I collect coins and sometimes to find the specific coins I need I have to go through circulation rolls of coins to find the specific one I'm looking for. For example, I just got three rolls of dollars from the bank and I was able to find two I was looking for, the 1980-D and 1999-P Susan B. Anthony Dollars. That leaves me with 73 coins that I don't need for my collection that I have to spend. Also keep in mind that most of the time I go through rolls and there is nothing I need for my collection. Unlike the gentleman in the article, I never use more than eight or so at once.

I prefer to run everything thru Costco/American Express. Last year the cash kick back was around $500. Better than a kick in the pants. We don't over spend and in 30 or more years have not paid any interest or charges.

The advantage of dollar coins to the taxpayers is they don't wear out. Paper dollars should be pulled out of circulation. They don't even buy a cup of coffee.
