Transparency

    When campaigning, there was a lot of talk about the secrecy of the Bush administration, and how this administration was going to be oh-so-much-more transparent.

    (I don't disagree with the court ruling; I'm simply pointing out another example of how the idealism has met reality)

    I saw that and I'm not pleased. On one hand, there is a need to keep certain information secret, but there is also a need to punish those who break the law by torturing. Don, do you think the Obama administration was forced by reality to be less transparent or did they never intend to be more transparent in the first place?

    I previously posted in a different thread where someone was quoted as saying Obama entered the presidency with a great vision and strategy, but then it met up with operational reality. And a member of his staff, who's now leaving, was also quoted as being tired of the idealism.

    If he knew beforehand that he couldn't be as transparent as he was talking up the voters, then he's a politician in the worst sense of every politician joke.

    I personally think he's naive beyond understanding, and has surrounded himself with like-minded naive idealists. He will leave this presidency bitter and blaming others for its failures, never understanding why the "high ideals" didn't work.

    Or he is very, very, smart, sold out before he was elected, and will cry all the way to the bank in two years.

    One person's take on the transparency thing was that by now we should be able to SEE RIGHT THROUGH the lies, deceptions and hypocrises that have been coming from 1600 PA Ave.

    Yes. I was a sucker bothering to vote (anyone) for the office of president. If that issue had been the only issue on the ballot I would not have bothered.
