Am I getting senile or what?

"Obama also has sought to cast Sept. 11 as a day of service to others, and he participated himself by traveling to the Ronald H. Brown Middle School in northeast Washington to take part in Armed Services YMCA: Operation Kid Comfort. At the school, Obama helped paint a multipurpose room, and chatted with volunteers making quilts for children of deployed troops decorated with pictures of servicemembers."

Isn't this exactly what he did before?

Is this a current story - or is it a year old?

Diversity is not a goal we should have in religion.

    Tolerance does not imply acceptance.

    Islam is not our friend.

Isn't freedom of religion one of America's cornerstones?

Pres Obama is not the national pastor. Of course political leaders want tolerance of other beliefs.

Should he have said that on the anniversary of 9/11 we should be more intolerant of each other's beliefs?

The US is big enough and free enough for all religious beliefs.

The cause of Christ is not furthered by political intolerance.

    Is this a wrong perspective?

    Or this?

The only reason we have freedoms of any kind is because God blessed us to have them.

    Islam is not our friend.

Shouldn't Obama be asking the Muslims to be tolerant? They are the ones who cut off the heads of infidels, not Christians. It is Muslims who are intolerant, not Christians.

Go over to Saudi Arabia and try to build a church like they are building mosques all across this country. You will never be seen or heard from again.

He appealed to all Americans for tolerance.

As to Saudi Arabia - do we really want them to be the standard for the US?

That wasn't the topic of this thread - it was that President Obama is appealing for tolerance.

Muslims have the right to worship their god in America. It really is that simple.

No one is asking for people to be tolerant of violence. The president made that very clear in his speech as quoted in the article in the OP.

You accusation is that I am off topic by trying to 'wag the dog.' There is no implication that you are off topic.

The First Amendment assures freedom of religion for all Americans. The president would be foolish to get up and tell American Christians to be intolerant of Muslim citizens or vice-versa.

Does anyone really believe that the US president should use the occasion of the anniversary to encourage religious intolerance?

He is the leader of ALL Americans, Christians, Muslims, Catholics, Jews, and whatever else. He clearly condemned the murderers of 9/11 while seeking mutual tolerance of each other's beliefs.

How can he be condemned for that?

I think He should have not done the opposite by endorsing it. Notice who is the object for tolerance.....Islam. This was not just a "we are the world" ho-hum.

Congress hasn't been making "law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" except of course atheism which is the favored religion of all liberals.

On the other hand, the President has been busy lending plenty of support to Islam. The result is encouragement to the spread of that violent hateful belief in our own nation.

Regardless, the people and the States were never intended to be limited by the rules that applied to Congress. It is only by a corruption of the original intent that the restraint was extended to the States. It is only by further corruption that it is soon to be extended to the people.

We have no obligation to increase religious diversity in our nation and would be fools to think it a good thing. Islam is not our friend and we ought to all stand firmly against it.
