    12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

    Jesus confined his ministry to a limited geographical area. Even after he returned to the Father, his followers did not immediately spread the gospel beyond a limited area.

    They were forced to expand their boundaries because of persecution, as they witnessed wherever they fled to.

    But the real spread of the gospel increased with the missionary journeys of Paul and Silas, and Barnabas.

    Even today, spreading the gospel is a world-wide mission cause, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

    Agreed! With special emphasis on the work of Holy Spirit. That is the point, imho, that Jesus is making. He goes to the Father, Holy Spirit comes.
