Politically speaking, Christianity and Islam have the power to impress upon their national leaders their silent, covert will.

Next to big money and big business, religion does have an impact on the leadership and policies of a nation.

Mormonism is not as big a player in fashioning laws and policy, but, in the recent gay marriage act voted on in California, Mormons had played a tremendous part in getting the law passed.

Catholicism is also a major player in politics, but, like the Mormons they are not as powerful, or involved as they once were.

With that in mind which of these denominations do believe are "cults?"

Thanks for your vote, and feedback/input on this subject. Religion has always played a part in politics, but, today, the major players, worldwide, seem to be Christianity and Islam.

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul

Out of those mentioned, none of them are cults. Mormonism is a heretical religion because they claim to be Christian while denying the Most Blessed Trinity. Catholics have some issues but they are orthodox in the broad sense. Islam isn't heretical because Muslims don't claim to be Christian. Muslims are infidels, not heretics. Muslims also aren't pagans like Hindus are. Hindus are infidels and pagans.

EDIT: Nation of Islam is a cult. I didn't see them in your post at first. Also, I assume in your poll by "Christians" you mean non-Catholic Christians like Baptists, Methodists, Eastern Orthodox, Episcopalians, etc. since you listed Catholics as a separate choice.

The word cult has many definitions and depending on which one you use, they were all cults at one time, some of them are cults or none of them are cults.

While I disagree with the way Catholics do things, I don't view them as a cult. I do view the Mormon Church as being cultish. The reason I don't put Islam or the Nation of Islam into the "cult" category is because they are a false religion.

I voted that Christianity/Catholicism is cultish because we follow a charismatic leader in Jesus Christ.

You are a cult because you follow the pope.
