    We all know the verses:
Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost teaching them to observe whatsoever things I have commanded you and lo I am with you always even to the end of the world.

    But what does that entail?

    Here is what I think.

I think it is about global conquest. Not by physical force, of course, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself above the knowledge of God.

And it is not by coercion. We do not legislate that people worship Christ.

But it is by conviction. Convincing the world that Jesus is Lord and persuading them to yield themselves to his rule in their lives, finding forgiveness of sins, etc...

I think far too many of our churches think far too small. They even call themselves- hospitals for the hurting- as if that is the essence of the great commission. Certainly we do care for the hurting just as any army cares for its wounded. But caring for the hurting is only a small part of what we are to do- not the sum total of it.

    What do you think?

In remote Mexico, a man was beaten frequently by pagans for preaching Christ and for performing miracles. An Indian chief that was also pagan had threatened the mans life if he continued. Two days later the chief died. The chief's son had been converted weeks before and held his father in his arms for over six hours, believing that he would be raised because the bible said so. He came back to life and many were saved, including of course the chief. This is just one of 53 reported around the world. You may need names and doctrines but you will only tear them apart, instead of rejoicing that out supernatural God still works the supernatural. Unbelief needs endless documentation and still won't believe, even if they see it with their own eyes. Need names? Think it's possible?

I have no doubt God can work any wonders He so chooses. You claimed in your first reply that we, as His children, were able to raise the dead.

Dont go putting words in my mouth. Where did you see that I said or even implied I was looking to tear anything you said apart? You made a claim that I was simply asking for clarification on. Just wanted your thoughts on the matter.

I am sorry. I presumed an attack like most do here when something awesome of God happens besides getting 3 people to say a prayer at church. That was judgmental of me, a defense that was not needed. ooops, sorry! I won't jump so quickly.

    Apology accepted.

So do you believe we can raise the dead?

I just read another post of yours that you do believe that believers can raise the dead.

Just curious what leads you to believe this? Which Scriptures?

When I get my rational logical mind out of the way, absolutley. I have seen and participated in a few miracles myself, but Jesus did it. That is a big one. I refuse to put church doctrine above the words of Jesus. I know one thing, I used to say miracles would not happen because of "sound" doctrine and I'd never seen it happen. But how many times did I try? When you experience one, it will blow you away.

Again, what Scripture or Scriptures leads you to this belief?

Also, how can you 'participate' in a miracle?

Mark 16....John 14....many more. Participate by laying hands on the sick, commanding it to leave, thanking Jesus with childlike faith, Jesus does the work. It is love for the sick person. I am not 100%, but I am growing. You can do it too.

Mark 16 is Jesus ressurection...not by believers but by God.

John 14? Only thing I see there that you could be referring to is verse 12 and I dont believe raising the dead is what He was referring to. He uses the term 'works', not miracles.

I still dont see where you get your belief from.

The reason I am so interested is because I have a member of my family who claims miracles dont exist today......that miracles ceased after the Bible was completed. This person claims to believe in divine healings, but not miracles. He claims 1Cor 13:10 as proof (the Bible is 'that which is perfect').

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

    Jesus' works were miracles.
    John 10:37-39

37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
All through scripture Jesus did mighty works, some were jealous and wanted to kill Him. He says in 38 believe the works. These works were not what just anyone could do. He was not fixing roofs and having fundraisers lol.

John 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Anyone can do good deeds in the natural, and this is good. Boy scouts to them, unbelievers do them, how can that be "greater" works? Notice Jesus said it's the Father in Him doing them, in turn it's Jesus in us doing them, we get no credit so we cannot glory, kind of a built in safety lol. Works and miracles and signs and wonders are interchangable here.

The verses you refer to in Mark 16 are Jesus talking about the apostles....not to everyone. He was speaking to and about those eleven people. He gave the apostles those powers, not us.

The verses John 10:37-39 are referring to what Jesus himself did while on earth. Has nothing to do with anything happening today, or anything done by man.

Again in John 14:11-13, He is speaking to and about the apostles. He says right there "verily I say unto YOU" (the apostles).

None of this has anything to do with anything happening today as far as I'm concerned. I'm not attacking you in this, just dont see where you get your beliefs from, scripturally.

It does not say "And these signs shall follow them that are apostles;" It says "And these signs shall follow them that believe;" Believers And it does not say "And these signs shall follow them that believe until the bible is complete." Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It never said in the bible that it would stop. Men say it stopped. Why? They cannot do them because of unbelief. Lack of faith.People let their experience trump doctrine. Let me ask you this. What would it possibly hurt if you prayed in Jesus' name for a blind man, and then he could see? That would prove this doctrine and end all debate right? What if you saw it happen?

What it says in Mark 16 is "and He said unto THEM"....THEM, not said unto ALL. Funny how that one word....THEM.....changes the context of the Scripture.

Like I said, I have someone close to me who mentioned he didnt believe in miracles. I never really started studying on it until tonight when I saw your post. I thank you for getting me to look into the matter further. I have been studying my Bible on it, I want to show you what i found. You can take the information for what you think its worth.

My bible has a small overview of Theology in the back, and I think it sums up very well what I found in Scripture. It says:

"There were two kinds of gifts given in the early church: miraculous gifts of devine revelation and healing, given temporarily in the apostolistic era for the purpose of confirming the authenticity of the apostles message(Heb 2:3-4; 2Cor 12:12); and ministering gifts, given to equip believers for edifying one another. With the New Testament revelation now complete, Scripture becomes the sole test of the authenticity of a mans message, and confirming gifts of a miraculous nature are no longer necessary to validate a man or his message(1Cor 13:8-12). Miraculous gifts can even be counterfeited by Satan so as to deceive even believers(Mt 24:24)."

    it goes on.....

"...no one posseses the gift of healing today, but God does hear and answer the prayer of faith and will answer in accordance with His own perfect will for the sick, suffering, and afflicted."

I apologize to the OP for hijacking this thread. It was not intentional. I had never seen anyone claim they could raise the dead. I wouldnt blame you a bit for starting a new thread with the same topic, seeing as how far this one has gone off on a tangent.

It does not say "And these signs will follow the gifted" Notice in verse 15 and 16

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe;.....

In 15 Jesus is telling the 11 to go preach to the world.
In 16 He describes the people they will preach to, as believers and unbelievers. Saved and damned.
In 17 He further describes those that become believers.

Why would Jesus tell the 11 to go out and preach, and then tell them they will do miracles if they believe? They had been doing it already at His instruction probably for some time. Not only them but He sent out 70 way before this that did miracles, or at least had some success. Were there 70 apostles? Or can we say believers will do these signs.

True, he was talking to the Apostles. However, he continued on and said " he who believes in me". That takes away the exclusivity to just the Apostles, IMHO.

    12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;
