Meyer has problems

    I’m a Gator fan through N through, but when you keep going for the border line student who has had problems in high school just because he is a good player, you are going to have problems. Is it time for Meyer to go? Hr brought the players in so I believe ever what is wrong is on him. I think he should go.

    Galen Hall and Charlie Pell ran what I would call a dirty program and it looks like we have another one. Would our Gator fans put up with this going 6 and 6 or so?

    Kind of like with my children in sports are group deals, I didn't care if you let the other kids go for doing such in such, I wanted mine to pay the price for what they did. I would have felt better if rules were carried out on all, but such is life.

    GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Florida coach Urban Meyer is fed up with the run of arrests in his program.
    When receiver Chris Rainey was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking last week it marked the 30th arrest—involving 27 players—in Meyer’s tenure…..
    Meyer, who has won two national championships in his six seasons at Florida, bristled at the thought he’s running a “dirty program.”
    “I don’t care,” he said, when asked if he was concerned the program was being perceived that way. “We do our best to win games. Dirty program? It’s not a dirty program. We follow the rules and some guys make mistakes and we’ve got to correct those mistakes. We follow the rules. We do it the right way at Florida and we have to do a better job with correcting some of the people making mistakes.”

    Dirty program? I wouldn't say that. To have a dirty program means you have extra benefits out the ears, lax discipline, etc. No one has ever said Meyer was a huge disciplinarian. Neither was Spurrier. But I wouldn't say Florida is as bad as say, Oklahoma, where Bob Stoops might make you run 20 laps if you committed a felony but only 10 if no one was killed. :laugh:

    UT had two or three guys end up on his team after Fulmer kicked them off.

    I remember one paper talking about how UT had a certain number of arrests in a year's period. It was then seen that Spurrier had that many in a 10 week period. The same thing has followed him to SC.

    I don't know about Meyer's job being in jeopardy. I think if he wins, he's fine. Addazzio may have some barking at his heels though.

    Best of luck to the Gators tomorrow. I hope the whole trip is a good one...well, I hope the trip home is kinda sad :)

    I've heard you say that before, would you please show where it came from. I know of nothing like that at Florida but I might be to close to it, at SC his first year he kicked 20 some player off the team for a mess of stuff, but none of them were his, they had been there before he came. I believe it was before spring practice. Stephen Garcia was such a mess I believe Steve should have lost his job over keeping him.

    But you could be correct, for the first time in Steve career his program is being investigated.

    I know a couple of Florida buddies who talk about FL like Steve and Urban run such a tight ship (Most FL fans roll their eyes at such a suggestion). One bragged to me one day about how Jevon Kearse is not allowed on campus, and that shows how much they discipline people but other SEC schools don't. Lo and behold, I saw Jevon Kearse on the sidelines twice that season, and a friend in the Titans' organization had a framed picture of Kearse with Spurrier taken before kickoff of the game where TN beat them in '01 due to the postponement after 9/11. That said, I don't remember a single investigation of Steve either. Most of his trouble came not during recruiting but once they got there. Florida schools should never have recruiting violations. Nor do they need a big budget. Just use a bullhorn....holler at recruits, and they're fine :) Florida is probably as talent-rich of a state for HS football as there is.

    Tom, thanks for the reply. I keep a lot of things in my mind that I can't lay a trail to, so don't feel bad.

    I e-mailed Jeremy Foley. He didn't answer by they didn't know anything maybe their memory is bad. We always seem to remember what the Bulldogs do wrong the most or FSU. Sometimes memory is selective.

    The office did point out that when Steve came they were under probation by the NCAA and they keep a close watch on him till his last year or two. Even then there were a few players from south Florida that they would not allow him to bring in. He almost didn't get them to allow Fred Taylor in.

    I was over in Gainesville last week talking to some folks and they said for the last few years Ga. is one of the top areas to recruit. I guess FSU has been ahead of us for years, they have been working south Florida even when I was in school.

    Fla St and Miami coming on strong ( as well as, to a lesser extent, South Fla, UCF) will definitely hurt FL recruiting. While Miami was down, UT had success raiding Florida. When Miami and Fl St were "down," Georgia got in on the mix with Richt.

    Florida isn't going anywhere for a while as they continue to land good recruits, and these recruits aren't getting axed. Once someone compiled a list of dismissed UT Vols. It looked like an all-star team. James Banks, Onterrio Smith, Lynn McGruder....an impressive list. Add in who they wouldn't recruit due to other issues and it gets more impressive. Some were re-recruited (Daniel Hood is one) by Little Lanie and that aided his recruiting class his first year...wait...ONLY year...on Rocky Top :laugh:

    Meyer has had nearly thirty players being busted. As he needs to get tough on them. Same with ex-Vol coach Philip Fulmer.

    The biggest thing to hamstring Coach Fulmer was that silly four strike penalty imposed at the urging of then President Shumaker (what a buffoon). Fulmer argued against it but had no choice but to abide by it due to litigation outside the football program. No question Phil wasn't running a Sunday School class over there (though there were many converted during his time as we were the only school at the time to have a full time Christian chaplain paid for by the school - read Phil Fulmer's own money).
