I am honestly not sure. The best case imho, the tea party candiates will be conservatives of principle and will stand against the liberalism of both parties. The republicans and democrats will both have to move right and become more in step with the people they are supposed to represent.

The worse case, tea party canidates will get sucked into the Republican establishment and accomplish nothing. Rage at the liberal republicans will result in Obama being re elected in 2012 and any republican gains will be erased quickly.

The kinds of republicans we have elected for the last 20 years will not help solve our countries problems, they will continue to make things worse. Not as fast as the democrats are selling us down the drain, but still worse, not better.

Salty, If you are talking of a stand alone Party they will split Republicans. If you are speaking of specific candidates within the Republican Party then I believe that they will elect solid conservatives this time around.

IMO, as long as all remain under the banner of 'Republican' the Democrats are in big trouble. I expect there will be many more fiscal conservatives in congress after the upcoming midterm elections, the Dems may even lose both houses. There's more danger of splitting the Republicans and causing the Dems to win in 2012.

The "tea party" has already been co opted by globalist neocon warmongers and the defenders of Orwellian style big brother government.

I suspect it will continue to fool a large number of well meaning people. Not unlike the neocons who co opted the small government conservative movement that led us into multiple endless wars, spiraling unsustainable debt and a huge surveillance/security/police state.

Michele Bachman, for instance has already shown her true colors by voting to extend provisions of the misnamed "patriot act(s)".

    I would have voted "other".

Make that "limited government conservative movement". Those of us old to remember it and still able to fully understand what happened to it are still a bit in awe at how many good conservatives have turned their back on it's principles in favor of the warfare welfare state and the global violence and bloodshed it feeds on to survive and enrich itself at the expense of all the people's of the world.
