Are you surprised that so many people are on the ballot?

    Otherwise, comments are just fine

Yes, in a fusion ballot state a person may run on more than one party line.

For example, Mr. Cuomo is running on the Democrat and Independence Party lines

and Mr Paladino is running on the Republican, Conservative and Taxpayers Party lines. What will be interesting is that Mr. Edwards is the Lt Governor candidate on the Rep and Cons Lines while Mr. Ognibene is the Lt Gov candidate on the Taxpayers party line.

The reasons are two fold for the extra party lines.
    1) a person will get a second line so party line votes wont feel so bad voting for a candidate - ie A Republican may vote for Cuomo, but does not want to pull the Democrat lever - thus he will vote on the Independence Line.
    2) A party wants its candidate to know how much support they are getting from its followers. For example,Paladino is on the Conservative Party line - thus if a large number of votes are cast on that line, he realizes that he must continue in Conservative values.

Note: this year Cuomo decided against accepting the Working Families party line - and now that the race is getting closer - that could make a difference as the WF have put up their own candidate.

It is imperative a party put up a candidate for governor as to maintain party status - on the ballot - you must receives 50,000 votes in the election.

The Green party is hoping to regain party status this year. The last time they qualified was when "Grampa" (from the Munsters) Al Lewis was the candidate.

Wow...that would have been the biggest win since Lurch became the Massachusetts senator and ran against GWB in 2004.

The full story is that Paladino was upset because the NY Post went to the home of his out-of-wedlock daugher and her mother. Paladino did not like the fact that the Post was taking pictures of his daughter.
