I have been told(just like many of us have), that the dead sea scrolls are great, because “they support the accuracy of our Bible”, because they agree with it.
I have yet to understand, what makes this so great.(I don’t need them to help my faith.)

But recently on another thread, someone’s hero(Robert Lowth), was criticized by Spurgeon, for wrongly changing Scripture.

And he responded, that Spurgeon couldn’t help it, because the dead sea scrolls hadn’t been found yet and that some of the mistakes that Robert Lowth made, are almost supported by the dead sea scrolls.
    --------------------------------------------------
The dead sea scrolls, are a distraction to Christianity, that attack our faith in God’s Word.

Any benefit these documents might contain, about Jewish history or manor of life, are offset by the damage they have caused, by casting doubt upon the established Word of God.

Bible believing Christians, should ignore them.

What is a blessing is that the scrolls show that the Word of God that we have is truth. The world sees this ancient set of books and say that it's so old that it HAS to be all wrong - yet we find these manuscripts that show that it is not. What a blessing to us!

    I have three questions.

    1. What is the "established" word of God?
    2. Who "established" it?
    3. When was it "established"?

    Hello God's_Servant

As I was typing the OP, I knew someone would pick up on this word “established" and you won the prize.

    Now to your questions.........
    The Bible.
The same Bible that Christians have been studying for almost 2000 years, and the same Old Testament, that saints have always been studying.
    --------------------------------------------------
God established it, by blessing those who studied it.
    --------------------------------------------------
The Old Testament, was truly established, when our Lord spoke of it being God’s Word.
And the New Testament was truly established, when the New Testament books were canonized.
    --------------------------------------------------
Now in context with my post..........
Here we have God’s Word, the Bible, that for thousands of years has been recognized by God’s people, as being God’s perfectly preserved Word.
Then, we have these discoveries of old manuscripts.

    Now, what’s the big deal; We already have God’s Word, perfectly preserved;
The only purpose these discoveries pose, are to cast doubt upon the established Word of God.
    --------------------------------------------------
Also, there is no real evangelistic value to them either.
Finding old documents, does nothing to establish the authority of God’s Word to the unsaved world.

Fulfilled prophecy, is God’s way of convincing the unsaved, of the Bible’s authenticity.

I know you believe that the KJV is the perfect word of God, so why do none of the texts between when the books were written and when it was translated agree perfectly with the KJV. Did the poor Christians of the first 1,500 years of the church not have God's word? Remember, things that are different are not the same, so, according to your logic, these Christians had a lesser version of scripture that we English speaking people have been blessed with. The texts that every Christian had for the first millennium and a half of the church are not the same as the "perfect" KJV, so they must not be as good. What leads you to believe that God would do something for his children that speak English that he wouldn't do for every other Christian for such a long period of time. Are we more special to him than them? What about the vast majority of Christians in other countries that have Bibles that are different that the KJV? Why doesn't God give them a perfect Bible. You may say because English is the dominate language, but it is receding. Is God going to "re-perfect" a Bible in Spanish?

Your problem, stilllearning, is that the OT Jesus quoted from is different than the OT contained in the KJV. In fact, the OT Jesus quoted from follows a different Hebrew textform known as the Vorlage text, and is the Hebrew text which underlies the Septuagint, which KJVOs absolutely abhor. :)

Jesus liked it. KJVOs hate it. Kind of says it all. :)

    Hi God's_Servant

I suppose you(and others), just can’t help it.
“This is not a KJBO thread.”
God’s Word was established, long before the KJB

I haven’t said one word about the KJB, yet it keeps coming up, again and again.

You know, I honestly started to respond to your post, but it just went on and on(sentence after sentence), putting words in my mouth.

You should find someone who is saying all these things and ask them for answers.

    Hello Tcassidy

    Before pointing out “my problem”, please do some study of my posts;

Here is a thread I started just month or so ago........

    --------------------------------------------------
Don’t get me wrong, I am anxious to be corrected and to learn what my real problems are.

But your suggestion, is not one of them!

Okay, apart from the KJV, what do you believe is the perfect word of God? I want specifics. No vague answers.

I did. That is why I pointed out your error. Jesus was not quoting from the LXX. If He was He did a very poor job of it! He was quoting from the Vorlage Hebrew text, which the KJV OT is NOT translated from.
