At the risk of being shot down.... baptism?

Why should you wait another day? New Christians in the Bible didn't wait. See, for example, Acts 8:36-38 and Acts 12:47-48.

 

No guns blazing here. It is great to hear that you are now finally after all this time beginning to see things new. Here is what you said; "I truly accept Jesus Christ as my Saviour." If Jesus is truly your Lord and Saviour then you need to be Baptized. Baptism is the first command that is given to anyone who has come to repentance towards God and put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Do not look at what others are doing. They may not be saved. If you really feel that you have surrendered your heart to God by receiving His Son as Lord then it is not a question of waiting. It is your first command in your new life so you really need to get it done as soon as possible.

 

Baptism identifies you with your Savior and with the body of Christ.

Feeling different....How wonderful it is to have the peace that only God can provide. Feeling that you have been washed in the blood of the lamb and made clean is the greatest gift a man can attain in theis world. When I had this feeling I desired baptism. Read I Peter 3:21 I'm a KJV reader so I don't know how other translations read but this verse tells us that " baptism is the answer of a good CONSCIENCE toward God." Praising God for the gift you have recieved

 

Yes, you should get baptized without delay. You have faith in Christ and you seem ready to make that commitment and join a church. Go for it!

 

You said something about pride.

Maybe for you it IS pride and you need to quelch that first and make sure you're doing it as a step of obedience and because it is right, giving the TOTAL glory to God for your salvation and NONE to yourself.

On the other hand, if you wait until you're perfect, it won't ever happen. It IS the next step so try to take it.
Pray and figure out if your hestitation is because you haven't fully accepted Christ or if it's sin trying to stop you from growing in the faith.

 

Why are you asking us? Ask the minister by whom you heard the Gospel and were converted.

 

I assure you, you've just related the case of many of His Lambs down through the centuries.

Brother, I'd say you're as ready as you'll ever be. What doth hinder you?

If you wait till you get better you will never do it.

 

Praise God that you have heard the gospel.

I would proceed in the gospel with the first act of obedience, be baptized!

Note that for all the discussions we have here on the board concerning the finer theological points surrounding baptism, none of us would suggest that one needs to complete their sanctification process before entering the waters of baptism in faith. Baptism is a first step. That you know your salvation well enough to profess that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, that you are saved by grace through faith, repenting of your sins, and that you desire to follow after Christ, you are a viable candidate.

Yes, you need to get baptized right away. If you read the scriptures, most new believers were baptized immediately.

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

So, you see the Ethiopian eunuch was baptized immediately after trusting Jesus. The Philipian jailer in Acts 16 was also baptized the same night he believed along with all his family.

I cannot help but suspect that part of the problem is your family. You said you were raised Catholic. I can understand that being baptized might cause some real problems with your family. But you should be baptized as a testimony that you have trusted Jesus. It might cause problems at first, and I have known many former Catholics that have gone through this, even marriages that almost came to divorce over this issue, but I have also seen many folks who came from these former Catholic's families get saved. Trust God and follow his command.

I was the man behind the mic on Friday and Saturday night calling motel time and i walked off the stage after singing in the New Year for the drnks, filled by and with the Holy Spirit of God and straight into the church and after the Pastor queried me to be sure my first question was, Can i be Baptized before my bithday, it was and is the 25th of January and the week before my birthday i, publicly, made that statement of faith. As a Teacher I urge you to be baptized as soon as you can be... Tell the world you are stand with and because of Jesus!
