Can someone give me the literal translation for Lev. 18:22?

    Of course on another board there is the "very hot" discussion about homosexuality among other things. Someone said that the translation is "And with a male you shall not lay lyings of a woman" (of course it's from the website Religious What say you??

    One website I visited said the term "lay lyings of a woman" is difficult to translate.

    I looked at several translations of that verse and they all tended to agree, with similar renderings, with only minor variations.

    Robert Alter translates it,
    “with a male you shall not lie as one lies with a woman.” [The Five Books of Moses, 2004. p 623.]

    He notes that the word translated, “as one lies” is a distinct euphemism for sexual behavior.

    שכב זכר משכב אשה תועבה
    Laid male ? woman of abomination. That is a literal as I can get it. One word I could not translate literally.
