    Our Pastor , tonight asked us to find out if Pontious Pilate ever became a Christian after the crucifixion of The Lord Jesus. I have looked on the internet and read a lot of words about this, and have understood from this that he continued in his ruthless ways and finally commited suicide. Can anyone here throw any more light upon this subject ?
    I`ve just found something that says the Ethiopian church believes that P.P. became a Christian ?????

    so do I, but the Bible is silent about this, and I was hoping to find some historical facts that would tell me from other sources.

    Gwyneth, I believe you have about all the information there is. Pilate was recalled to Rome because of his cruel and impetuous treatment of the Jews. Tradition has it that he committed suicide but no one really knows.

    You are right that the Ethiopian church claims that both Pilate and his wife, Claudia, became Christians. The Greek church honors Claudia but does not maintain that Pilate ever became a Christian. Without a doubt, Pontius Pilate was one of the most tragic characters in all of history. Ironically, however, Pilate and Mary are the only persons mentioned in the Apostles Creed.

    Hi, Gweyneth.

    Many years ago I read a legend or church tradition (not sure which) which said that Pilate retired to Switzerland. According to the story, he went insane and would row out on Lake Lausanne, where he would wash his hands over and over again. I can't find where I read the story, though, and can't find it on the Internet.

    However, here is an insteresting website which mentions the Lausanne connection: http://www.bibleprobe.com/pontius_pilate.htm

    If the Bible is Silent . .

    . . . there is a reason. Like Judas, Pilot probably died a sinner. Of course we'll all die a sinner, just some of us are saved by His grace.

    If the Bible doesn't address the name later on, there is a good chance the person never came to Jesus for the blood covering we have.

    Great question. Sorry there doesn't seem to be a better answer. Something like the greek tragedy endings: "Deus ex Machina!"

    Gwyneth, just curious what is the point? What is your Pastor trying to show with this exercise? How will it make a Christian grow in Christ or convince a lost person to receive Christ?

    There was a wonderful fictional reading of two retired Roman governors at a villa, reflecting on the "good ol' days".

    One asked Pontius Pilate about this Jesus from Nazareth that he had condemned and how it started a religious cult.

    Pilate's classic response was, "Jesus? From Nazareth? Sorry, don't recall the name."

    I don`t think it was meant to, it was only that
    We had been discussing the events leading up to the crucifixion of the LORD JESUS and it was something that we wondered about. It was just a question that was posed after the meeting.I knew that the Bible was silent on the subject, so I asked if anyone here could help.

    If you want a little deeper study leading up to the crucifixion here are two links. They are both the same article carried over to two pages;
